Germany is full of cozy towns with wonderful landscapes. There is in them some magnificent and at the same time fabulous atmosphere. Perhaps for this reason, German writers occupy a special place in the orderly ranks of the geniuses of world literature. Perhaps many of them are not as famous as authors from Russia, England, France, but this does not mean that they are not worthy of attention.
Top German Writers
- Erich Maria Remarque. Romance, hopelessness and a large number of philosophical thoughts that sometimes make you rethink a lot in life - all this is intertwined in the works of the author. His most famous work is Three Comrades. Fans of Remarque's work are advised to start acquaintance with the writer with this particular work. “On the Western Front Without Changes”, “Arc de Triomphe” and many of his other novels are also magnificent.
- Wolfgang Goethe. Perhaps the most famous German writer. The tragedy of Faust has long been firmly set among the best works of the whole world. “The Suffering of Young Werther” is his less known, though no less talented, work.
- Hermann Hesse. He is called one of the most harmonious novelists of the 20th century. "Steppe Wolf" has become a cult work among young people not only in Germany, but also in countries around the world. Along with the “Bead Game”, this novel shows the human suffering, misfortunes and delusions of a simple person.
- Thomas Mann He had an incredible ability to see life and reliably display it on paper. "Magic Mountain", "Buddenbrooks", "Death in Venice" - monumental works that are included in the golden fund of world literature.
- Lyon Feuchtwanger. If the above German writers tell us fictional stories (although, of course, very realistically), then Feuchtwanger is a master in the genre of historical novel. It is worth reading his books False Nero and The Spanish Ballad.
- Ernst Hoffmann. The name of this author in any book lover is immediately associated with fairy tales. However, these fantastic stories can hardly be called children's literature - even many adult and experienced readers hardly understand the meaning inherent in them. The "everyday views of the cat Murra", for example, or the "Golden Pot" will immediately let you know whether your author is or not.
The German writers of our day continue to create excellent literature. It is still different from that published in other countries. So, modern German writers:
- Gunter Grass. Winner of the Nobel Prize. The world’s fame was brought to the author by his very first novel, written by him in 1959, - The Tin Drum, which reflects the grotesque view of the history of Germany in the 20th century.
- Cornelia Funke. He writes mainly in the fantasy genre. Inkheart, The King of Thieves, and The Lord of the Dragons are great reads for teens. The writer knows how young hearts need good stories and faith in miracles - she worked with disabled children for many years.
- Patrick Suskind. He was nicknamed the “phantom of German literature”, and this is no coincidence - he evades all interviews as best he can. His most famous work is Perfumer. A screen version of it was seen by many.
- Bernhard Schlink. He was also world famous for the adaptation of the novel The Reader.
Of course, there are more good writers. Often, acquaintance with the author closest to your heart occurs suddenly. Just like with people.
