Rock is one of the most popular music styles in Russia. For many years of formation, domestic rock experienced both ups and downs, forever capturing many names in history. This is Victor Tsoi, and Vyacheslav Butusov, and Andrei Makarevich, and dozens of other cult figures. Many of them still successfully perform, gather huge stadiums, including abroad.
Rock has always stood out among other genres, because it is not just music, but a rebellious spirit. It was banned in the USSR. You could get to underground concerts only if you had connections, if you really are your own. For this expelled from the party. But still it was an island of freedom in a difficult time.
Legendary Ural rock
Ural rock is a whole separate milestone. The legendary Sverdlovsk club, where the first performances of current legends took place in the distant eighties, somehow magically became one of the main and revered in the Soviet expanses. From there came Chaif, Semantic Hallucinations, Agatha Christie, and Julia Chicherina.
New wave
But life does not stand still, domestic music is developing, and new names appear along with it. A new wave of performers is changing the very idea of rock in its classical sense, modifying it, boldly changing the sound and mixing styles.
Now there are no prohibitions, complete freedom of action, but the new performers raised on that music retain the essence and idea of their favorite style. Despite the fact that the Sverdlovsk club has been closed for more than twenty years.
Kurara Chibana Group
She is called one of the main groups of the new generation of rock.
About what it is - “Kurara Chibana”, they started talking in 2004.
"Kurara" appeared in Yekaterinburg on the ruins of a team called "Shamans." Their original mixture of rock and shamanistic rhythms was, if not a revelation, then at least the opening of the year.
The creators of Kurara Yuri Obleukhov and Oleg Yagodin first met in 1993. But their first joint work appeared only in 1999. Later they were joined by drummer Dmitry Darinsky, bassist Alexander Pugachev and Polina Emelina as backing vocalist.
Later the composition changed, but the basis remained the original. The group recorded quite actively and performed, but by 2004 it was decided to change the style and name of the group. What was announced in August at the 50 Years Stratocaster festival.
The current composition of the Kurara group:
- Oleg Yagodin is a founder, vocalist, writes lyrics, and also plays keyboards and a piano.
- Yuri Obleukhov - founder, guitarist and bass player, writes music and arrangements, backing vocalist.
- Alexander Volkhin - bass player, arranger.
- Vasily Skorodinsky - plays the drums.
“Kurara Chibana”: what is it?
Fans had many versions about the new name of the team. What is Kurara Chibana? And although musicians never hid the history of the name, they were not in a hurry to dispel myths. And yet: “Kurara Chibana” - what does this mean? There were even theories that the name comes from the word "boil". In fact, everything is simpler. Kurara Chibana is a famous supermodel originally from Japan. Musicians have a song with that name. She gave a new name to the group.

During its existence, and this is already more than ten years old, “Kurara” recorded seven studio albums. Each new album was different from the previous one, but retains the inherent style of the group. The guys boldly, effortlessly interfere with funk and electronics with traditional esoteric motifs. Dozens of singles and recordings of live iconic concerts have also been released.

Activities of musicians
"Kurara" is a frequent visitor to music festivals. Moreover, they can be seen both in the lists of thousands of thousands of festivals (the famous "Invasion" from "Our Radio", "Movement", "Old New Rock"), and among groups known only in narrow circles, at chamber parties.
Rumor has it that this year they will be performing a new program at the Wild Mint festival.
Over the years, curators have a tradition of organizing a New Year’s “hangover” performance in their hometown.
The group often undertakes joint performances. At different times, they could be seen on the same stage with fellow countrymen “Sansara”, “Semantic Hallucinations” and the guys from the group “Give Two”.
The guys also recorded the official soundtracks for the film "Box" and the series "Concerned", they tour a lot in Russia and Europe. They are loved in Poland, Germany, the Baltic countries.
In 2018, Kurara still has big plans and a busy schedule. The guys will come to Moscow in July and September, at the beginning and end of August they will play two concerts in their native Yekaterinburg. On September 29, the band will perform in Yaroslavl at the Papa Garage bar.
So, now you know what it is - “Kurara Chibana”. This is the spirit of a new generation of Russian rock. A new sound that has earned the recognition of critics, masses and mastodons, who are at the origins of the formation of the genre.
