Blushing syndrome is a sudden redness of the face or the appearance of crimson spots on it due to a malfunction of the autonomic nervous system. In life, this phenomenon causes a lot of inconvenience and can begin as early as adolescence.
In order not to get into an awkward situation
A person suddenly realizes that he is literally filled with paint when he answers the teacher, speaks to the class, goes to the blackboard. The situation is aggravated in this case by the increased attention of the team in relation to the lost and worried student.
Subsequently, problems arise in communication with the opposite sex; even when meeting with a look of a pretty special person, the face is involuntarily covered with spots, which can be interpreted as a sign of self-doubt, insincerity and incompetence. Psychological enslavement sometimes leads to the fact that in some cases a person can not even get acquainted with a partner, not to mention the establishment of a relationship with him. Trying not to be in an awkward situation, avoids new acquaintances, does not want to spend time in fun companies, refuses to go on a career. As a result, his personal life is overshadowed, career growth is minimized, and natural modesty develops into tense stiffness.
Causes of the appearance of blushing syndrome
- Violation of the functioning of the autonomic nervous system.
- Depression, neurosis, stressful situations.
- Hormonal disbalance.
- Diabetes.
- Vascular damage to capillaries.
- Diseases of the endocrine system.
- Menopause.
Double effect: blushing syndrome in combination with erythrophobia
In addition, sudden redness syndrome, which, according to statistics, is present in one in 500 people, is aggravated by erythrophobia - a fear of sudden redness. And this only worsens the situation: the impulse received by the nervous system in a state of excitement and fear causes instant stimulation of blood circulation. Sometimes this can be so acute that even in a calm environment, the face remains red.
Is regular redness of the face a disease?
Redness of the face does not in any way affect the condition and functioning of the internal organs, so blushing syndrome cannot be called a disease. Treatment (tablets in this case are ineffective and cannot be used continuously) is mainly carried out by the operational method. However, the great psychological burden that the patient bears, combined with a social assessment of redness, leads to the consideration of such a psychological state as a huge moral problem that can lead to severe depression. It is impossible to independently control the blushing syndrome, which is a kind of reaction to internal stress.
Diagnosis of blushing syndrome
It is not difficult to recognize the presence of a blushing syndrome, because the symptomatology of this phenomenon is quite transparent and obvious: a bright red complexion that catches your eye, manifested during excitement, constraint, stress or in a dispute.
But the question of treatment causes some difficulties. From a physiological point of view, sudden redness syndrome is explained by excessive expansion of small vessels in the skin of the face under stress. This enhances the subcutaneous blood flow, which appears externally as redness. In turn, the increase in blood flow is affected by impulses coming from the central nervous system along the sympathetic nerve trunk, formed from fibers that control the tone of the face. Unfortunately, it is impossible to reduce the excessive activity of the sympathetic nervous system pointwise (exclusively in the facial region) with drugs. But in general it is impossible to oppress such manifestations, because many internal organs and vital systems depend on its work.
What to do? How to treat blushing syndrome?
What can a doctor advise a person with such physiological features? First of all, get used to this condition, which is the result of increased blood flow in the dilated blood vessels. If the patient’s work is related to publicity (for example, it’s a lawyer in court), where you can’t blush in any way, then as a temporary measure you can use beta-blockers - special medications used to normalize high blood pressure, treat heart diseases, and increase heart rate . Such funds can temporarily block the blushing syndrome. Anaprilin tablets (for example) taken half an hour before a crucial event will block the problem for 3-4 hours.
Be sure to strive to deal with facial redness should seek the advice of an experienced neurologist with experience in treating problems of a vegetative nature.
Antidepressants Against Blushing Syndrome
As a solution to the problem, the doctor can suggest taking daily antidepressants that partially block the redness, and possibly even change his assessment of this condition. Indeed, most of the problem with blushing syndrome is the patient’s attitude towards him. They should be taken only under the supervision of a physician, because improper use of drugs can cause a complete blockage of nerve impulses, which will cause disruption of the functioning of internal organs. Unfortunately, antidepressants are not suitable for everyone, so you can deal with the phenomenon of sudden redness by the operational method. In order to decide on surgical intervention, you need to clearly understand for yourself whether it is really unbearable to live with sudden redness syndrome.
Surgical treatment
A sympathectomy is a recognized method, which consists in directly affecting the sympathetic nerve trunk, namely, blocking the passage of nerve impulses through it, giving a signal to the skin facial vessels and thereby causing a blushing syndrome. The operation is carried out using an endoscope and medical instruments inserted through subtle punctures of the chest in the armpit (two small holes on each side). The image is fed to the large screen in the field of view of the physician. The surgeon in the area of the apex of the chest defines a small area of the sympathetic nerve trunk and puts a special clip on this area. Nerve impulses reach the central nervous system to the place of attachment of the clip, in which signal transmission is interrupted. Also, the doctor can cut off the trunk at the right level or completely destroy it by using high-frequency electric current. As a result of the operation, the face does not blush, despite the fact that the fibers still stretch to the blood vessels of the face.
About half an hour and under complete anesthesia, such an operation is performed. Blushing syndrome, the price of treatment of which depends on the complexity of the case and the selected clinic, is defeated in 95%. The patient is under observation for another day in the clinic. The result of the treatment is manifested immediately and does not disappear after a certain time. The price of the operation is slightly above 60,000 rubles.
Contraindications and side effects
Contraindications to the operation is the presence of severe pulmonary or heart failure, complex forms of pleurisy, tuberculosis or emphysema.
Side effects can be increased sweating of the body, especially in hot weather and during physical exertion. With the end of the heat, this problem quickly disappears.
