pharmachologic effect

The drug "Nazonex" is a local corticosteroids drug that has anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects. The drug can have a local effect only in those doses that do not affect systemic effects.

The drug inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators. The drug increases the synthesis of lipomodulin, which is an inhibitor of phospholipase A, resulting in a decrease in the release of arachidonic acid, as well as inhibition of the synthesis of its metabolites - prostaglandins and cyclic endoperoxides.

In addition, nasonex can reduce the synthesis of chemotaxis, thereby inhibiting the onset of an immediate allergic reaction.

Also, during the studies, a high anti-inflammatory activity was found in relation to the mucous membranes of the nose.

Pharmacokinetics of nasonex

The instruction says that the bioavailability of the drug with intranasal use is less than 0.1%. In addition, mometasone furoate is very poorly defined in the blood. It is possible that parts of the drug may enter the digestive tract, but in this case, when the drug passes through the liver for the first time, it is actively biotransformed.

Indications nasonex

The instruction may include an incomplete list of indications for using this drug.

  • Treatment of allergic rhinitis in all age groups (except for children under 2 years old)
  • Treatment of chronic sinusitis in all age groups (with complex therapy)
  • Prevention of allergic rhinitis (must be taken in 2-4 weeks)

Side effects nasonex

The instruction speaks of various side effects, depending on the systems and organs.

Side effects of nasonex, as the main treatment for rhinitis:

  • Epistaxis (overt and staining of discharge)
  • Pharyngitis
  • Irritation of the nasal mucosa
  • Burning in nose

Epistaxis usually went away on its own after a few days and was not severe enough. In children, headache and sneezing are also added to the above symptoms.

Side effects of nasonex, as an adjuvant for the treatment of sinusitis:

  • Pharyngitis
  • Headache
  • Mucosal irritation
  • Burning in nose

Nosebleeds are few and go away on their own in a few days.

Very rarely, but nevertheless, the effects of perforation of the nasal septum are possible , they are also rare, but intraocular pressure increases are possible.

Patients who were treated with GCS have a reduced resistance, and also have an increased risk of infection in the future.

Studies on the effect of the drug on pregnancy have not been conducted, however, according to the fact that the concentration of the drug in the blood after administration is quite low, it can be assumed that a very small part and, as a result, a small toxic effect will be transmitted to the fetus. But, the appointment of this drug to pregnant, lactating and women of childbearing age should be done only after the ratio of all the health risks to the patient and the unborn child.

Contraindications

  • Under 2 years old
  • Postoperative wound or nose injury
  • Tuberculosis
  • Untreated fungal infection
  • Untreated bacterial infection
  • Systemic viral infection
  • Sensitivity to components

Overdose of nasonex

The instruction does not include any information about an overdose of this drug, since the drug has a rather low bioavailability, treatment of an overdose, as a rule, does not require specific measures. In case of an overdose, only symptomatic treatment is necessary.
