In 2009, the historical film Pavel Lungin, which tells about the life of Ivan the Terrible, was released. Mamonov played the main role. Alexander Domogarov, Ramil Iskander, Alexander Ilyin also played in the film. For Oleg Yankovsky, the role in the picture of Lungin was the last.
Plot
The film shows the events of the 60s of the XVI century. The Livonian war is in full swing. The Orthodox Church remains without a Metropolitan. 36-year-old, meanwhile a middle-aged man, was played by Mamonov. Ivan the Terrible awaits the arrival of Philip Kolychev (Oleg Yankovsky), whom he is familiar with from an early age. Upon arrival in Moscow, he first rejects the offer of the tsar.
According to historical sources, the king, played by Peter Mamonov, was very devout. In his first shots, Ivan the Terrible prays frantically, asking God for help in state affairs.
He manages to persuade Philip. Kolychev becomes Metropolitan. He is trying in every possible way to dissuade the tsar from executions, which for the formidable ruler have long been a habitual affair. The film consists of four parts. The final is called "Fun of the King." The painting shows the savage customs of the 16th century, the cruelty of the most formidable Russian ruler.
History of creation
Lungin had long dreamed of making a film about Ivan the Terrible. Mamonov is the only actor he has seen in this role. It is noteworthy that the director saw the features of the cruel king in him when watching the film "Island". In this film, as you know, Peter Mamonov played the role of a person who committed a great sin during the war and became righteous. Nevertheless, the actor Mamonov was not immediately approved for the main role.
Yankovsky could play Ivan the Terrible, who even managed to talk with the patriarch and get a blessing from him on the set in the historical film. So claims Okhlobystin, who in the picture of Lungin played the role of a jester. Perhaps Yankovsky would have played better than Mamonov. Ivan the Terrible, however, was a controversial person, combining wild cruelty and almost fanatical piety. Peter Mamonov coped with the role: he was able to create on the screen the image of one of the most mysterious figures in history.
The shooting took place in the ancient picturesque city of Suzdal. Near the Spaso-Euthymius Monastery, scenery was built that recreates the atmosphere of Moscow in the 16th century. Critics of the Lungin painting respond differently. Many did not like the somewhat distorted image of Ivan the Terrible. Historians have discovered factual errors in the film.
Cast
The second wife of Ivan IV was played by Ramil Iskander. Alexander Domogarov played the role of the guardsman Basmanov. Ville Haapasalo played Heinrich Staden - a German adventurer, one of the kingβs close associates. Yuri Kuznetsov appeared before the audience in the image of Malyuta Skuratov. Alexey Makarov played Ivan Kolychev. Other actors in the film "Ivan the Terrible": Andrei Bronnikov, Alexander Negodaylov, Alexander Lobanov, Eduard Fedashko, Yuri Sokolov, Timothy Savin.
Peter Mamonov
The actor has been acting in films since the early nineties. Before that, he was known as a musician. Peter Mamonov was born in 1951 in Moscow. He was fond of music as a schoolboy, giving preference to The Rolling Stones, The Beatles. Nevertheless, after receiving a certificate of maturity, he entered the printing college, having graduated from it, submitted documents to one of the capital's universities. True, Peter Mamonov studied at the institute for only three years. Little is known about this period from the biography of the actor. And Peter Mamonov himself does not like to talk about events that took place in his life before the start of his musical career.
In 1990, a former musician played in Lungin's film Taxi Blues. The director originally intended to invite another actor for the lead role. However, in Mamonov he was attracted by naturalness, originality. The picture was appreciated by critics, as evidenced by the award at the Cannes Film Festival. The lead actor was nominated for the Nika Award. The prestigious Russian film award then went to Innokenty Smoktunovsky.
The film "Island" was released in 2006. The role of the old man-healer is perhaps the best work of Mamonov in the cinema. However, he did not immediately agree to play it. The actor believed that playing the saint is too much responsibility. I agreed to the shooting of the film only after I consulted with my confessor. Other films with the participation of Mamonov: "Leg", "Dust", "Random Look", "Big Top Show", "Ashes".
