The Chuvash State Opera and Ballet Theater, the history of which is described in this article, was organized in the second half of the 20th century. His repertoire includes not only operas and ballets, but also musical tales and musicals for children, as well as operettas.
History of the Opera House
The Chuvash State Opera and Ballet Theater, whose building photo is presented in this article, opened its doors in 1960. The first performance of the troupe was the opera Shyvarman.
The first attempts to carry out musical performances in the city were made long before the opening of the theater. The first opera, or rather scenes from it, were shown to the Cheboksary public in 1913. This was the work of M. Glinka "Ivan Susanin." Then there were other productions. But these performances were amateurish.
The opera house was opened in 1959 on the basis of the drama. Its founder was B. Markov. Then the theater was called musical-dramatic. For many years, the troupe was small. Because of this, many productions were impossible to carry out.
From the first years of its existence, the theater included Chuvash operas in its repertoire. But also it included world classical masterpieces and works of Soviet composers. In 1962, the opera Chapay brought great success on tour in Moscow.
In 1966, graduates of the Leningrad Choreographic School replenished the theater. As a result, a professional ballet troupe was formed. Thanks to this, the theater expanded its repertoire, it included choreographic productions. The first ballets were Giselle, Sarpige and Chopiniana.
In 1969, the troupe was divided into two independent groups: dramatic and musical. This happened on the basis of an order of the Ministry of Culture. In 1986, the musical theater moved to a separate building.
Soon the troupe was joined by graduates of the conservatory, which allowed to increase the level of opera productions, and it became possible to carry out large-scale performances. The play appeared on the poster: "Tosca", "Faust", "The Tsar's Bride", "Carmen", "Prince Igor", "La Traviata", "Rigoletto", "Abduction from Seraglio" and "Troubadour".
In 1993, the musical theater was renamed. This was a recognition of the creative viability of the troupe. From now on, it became known as the Opera and Ballet Theater.
Artists often tour and participate in festivals. Thanks to this, today, far beyond the borders of the Republic, the Chuvash State Opera and Ballet Theater is famous . His address is the Russian Federation, Cheboksary, Moskovsky Prospect, building No. 1. Located on the bay in a picturesque location.
