What to do if the child’s nose does not breathe?

Violations of nasal breathing (when the nose does not breathe) are attributed to common pathologies that cause serious discomfort, reduce the quality of life, and cause various complications. Violations of the nose and nasal congestion lead to headaches, sinusitis, chronic rhinitis, polyposis, pharyngitis, snoring, vegetative-vascular dystonia, chronic bronchitis, fatigue, depression, neurosis, impaired brain function, and mental retardation in children.

It is especially painful to look at a child whose nose does not breathe. How to treat a runny nose in infants?

If the nose does not breathe in the infant, then it must be washed with a solution of chamomile, salt water - a teaspoon (or even a little less) of salt in a glass of water. To perform the procedure, you should dial a full nozzle suction and inject into the baby's nostril. It is not necessary to clamp the second nostril, it is through it that the snot will come out. It is necessary to hold the baby face down over the sink (you can not do this procedure for a child lying on his back!). If a runny nose lasts a long time, you will have to use collargol or protargol for instillation. Adequate humidity must be observed in the apartment.

Doctors explain the appearance of the common cold with infectious diseases (in most cases). Thus, the body tries to stop the spread of infection by secreting mucus, which contains many substances that neutralize viruses.
The main task, if the nose does not breathe with an infectious cold, is to prevent the mucus from drying out. In such cases, moistened, cool, clean air will be required. The child should be given regular drinking. When the mucus dries, the baby will not be able to use his nose for breathing and will breathe through his mouth. As a result, a runny nose will lead to thickening of the mucus and its drying in the lumen of the bronchi, which can be the beginning of bronchitis or pneumonia.

The simplest and most affordable remedy used to combat the common cold is a normal saline solution, which is water with a small addition of salt. If the baby does not breathe, then you can instill it with this solution at any frequency, injecting 3-4 drops into each nostril, you should not be afraid of an overdose.

A runny nose in a baby can also be cured with an ectericide, an oily liquid with a weak disinfecting effect. The oil that is part of the product covers the mucous membrane of the baby’s nose with a thin layer and prevents drying. Vaseline or olive oil, tocopherol or retinol (oily solutions of vitamin E or A) will help to cope with a runny nose. These solutions are administered 2 drops every 2 hours. They can also be combined with saline. All of the above methods have no side effects.

Children whose nose does not breathe as a result of infectious diseases should not be stuffed with vasoconstrictive drops (nasol, galazolin, sonorin, naphthyzine). If the nose does not breathe during pregnancy, then treatment is best suited, as for a baby. A runny nose in a child will pass on its own, if not disturbed.

Nasal breathing can be difficult for other reasons. Violations occur with an increase in the nasal concha as a result of allergic, vasomotor, hypertrophic rhinitis. Respiration is complicated by curvature of the nasal septum, with polyps, adenoids, and traumatic deformities of the outer part of the nose.

In such cases, a completely different treatment will be required. Otolaryngologists have gained extensive experience in restoring nasal breathing. In each case, treatment can be prescribed during an individual examination by a doctor. So, vasomotor rhinitis that occurs as a result of dependence on drops in the nose is eliminated by cauterization of the nasal concha (submucosal cauterization) using laser, plasma-argon, and radio wave methods. The septum curvature is corrected only in adulthood by the removal of defective fragments of bone or cartilage. When both diseases are combined under stationary conditions, a combined intervention is performed to eliminate these anomalies. Polyposis of the nose is treated by the method of endoscopic polypoetmoidotomy, which gives a longer lasting effect compared to conventional methods (polytomy, laser evaporation).

The most important thing to remember is that for any violations of nasal breathing in a child (and in an adult), you need to seek medical help, and not prescribe treatment yourself.
