Plot
The idea of making a film about survival in the wild belongs to Paul Hogan. In his historical homeland at that time, the story of a provincial guy who spent several long weeks in the desert and managed to survive, no matter what, was widely covered.
The film takes place in the Australian impenetrable jungle, where a young journalist comes to make an exciting reportage. Her guide in this green and dangerous world is the local ranger Mick Dundee. Absolutely unlike each other, the main characters are forced to spend several days among the wild, now and then getting into dangerous and ridiculous situations.
Soon enough, the reporter girl realizes that she is hopelessly in love with her guide and invites him to visit New York, her native stone jungle. What happened next is easy to guess. Met in extreme conditions, the main characters eventually remain together.
Cast
The budget of the film, which is meager by Hollywood standards, made it impossible to invite world-famous stars. The main roles were played by actors debuting in this field. Hogan's partner in this work was Linda Kozlowski, a young American actress, behind whom there were only productions on Broadway.
Dundee's friends in the film were played by the famous Australian actor John Maylon, as well as the native David Gulpilil. The bridegroom of the main character was performed by Mark Bloom, who appeared before that in the film “In vain search for Susan.”
How was the shooting
The Australian part of the film was shot for about 7 weeks in the Northern Territory. The Kakadu National Park, located 170 km from Darwin, served as the nature for the picture. The actors of the film “Dundee Crocodile”, like the entire film crew, lived in one of the abandoned mining settlements, in terrible conditions without any benefits of civilization.
The animals that appear in the film became a headache for everyone. In one scene of the movie "Dundee Crocodile" the actor was supposed to fill up a buffalo with his bare hands. An episode of several minutes of screen time was filmed all day, because the stubborn animal did not want to go to bed. Only after pumping him soothing, the operator was able to make a successful take. Of course, real crocodiles were not shot in scenes with people, they were replaced by stuffed animals.
The second part of the film was completed in New York. According to the group, working in America was much more pleasant.

The picture was released at the end of September 1986 and in a matter of days gained unprecedented success. The $ 8 million spent on filming quickly paid off. At the box office, the film earned 328 million, becoming the second highest grossing box office in 1986 and losing only the Top Gan movie masterpiece with Tom Cruise in the lead role.
For work on the Crocodile Dundee project, actor Paul Hogan was awarded the Golden Globe and nominated for an Oscar.
