Very often, when we come home and take off our shoes, we notice
swelling of the feet. The reasons for this phenomenon we will consider in this article. Usually we explain it to ourselves simply - ordinary fatigue, especially since in the morning a trace of it got cold. However, if such cases occur constantly, then it's time to ask the question:
"Why do the feet swell?" This is what we will talk about in this article.
Household causes of edema
- Most often, swelling of the legs appears in women. And this is not surprising, because the fair sex is very fond of beautiful and spectacular shoes with heels, forgetting that it is not always comfortable. But what can you do to arouse admiration? The ideal heel height for daily wear is 5-6 centimeters.
- Sedentary lifestyle, sedentary work. Blood stasis and muscle immobility leads to edema.
- Pregnancy. During this period of a womanβs life, swelling of the feet, the reasons for which may not be associated with any disease, is a frequent occurrence. The body undergoes restructuring and the load on the legs, including blood vessels, increases, and blood circulation worsens.
- Long walk. If you walked half a city on foot or stood in line for several hours, then you should not be surprised at swollen feet.
Medical causes of edema
Unfortunately, swelling of the
feet of the feet can also be of a medical nature. Swelling of the extremities is possibly associated with:
- foot or ankle injury (dislocation, sprain, puncture);
- problems in the work of the cardiovascular system;
- problems in the functioning of the lymphatic system, as a result of which there is an accumulation of fluids in organs and tissues;
- the appearance of blood clots, blood clots;
- venous insufficiency;
- incorrect kidney function;
- infection
- impaired liver function;
- taking antibiotics (hormones, steroids, antidepressants and other medicines).
What to do with edema?
If the feet swell, the causes can be very different. As mentioned earlier, they can be associated either with impaired functioning of the body, or with lifestyle and habits. Pay attention to edema if:
- they occur constantly;
- accompanied by other symptoms (redness, fever, back pain, and so on).
Self-medication is not recommended in such situations. The most sensible and correct decision will be to see a doctor who will help you identify the cause of edema and help eliminate it.
If the swelling of the feet, the causes of which we examined earlier, occurred due to wearing high heels, then it is worth reconsidering your attitude to them and make a choice in favor of comfortable shoes. If you have to spend most of your working time in a sitting position as a duty, find a way to periodically stretch your legs at least somehow (for example, you can take walks during the lunch break). And in the evening, after work, use special creams and lotions that will help your legs relax and restore their former tone.
