How does tuning the bass start? First of all, you need to configure the anchor. The metal bar in the neck of the instrument is called "anchor". Electric, acoustic, banjo and bass guitars have it, it is not used in classical instruments.
With the help of an anchor, the neck deflection is regulated, which in the recent past was made from strong wood species, which are also expensive in cost. We watched how he behaves in work before adjusting the pad. Finally, an anchor rod appeared - an indispensable thing for tuning the neck. His ability is that he does not bend at high pressure. It is believed that the first patent for the invention of the anchor was obtained by a certain Tadeus McHugh in 1921.
Anchor rod is mainly made of steel, but titanium and graphite are also used for its manufacture. It is placed between the bar and the pad. By loosening the anchor, you can ensure that the neck is bent, and the gap between it and the strings increases. Or, on the contrary, when the anchor is tightened, it straightens and becomes stiff, and the strings “lie” closer. The depth of the bend can be fixed by each owner of the guitar independently to your liking.
An anchor rod makes the instrument “work” for a particular guitarist with his personal “musical” addictions. Correct tuning of the bass guitar allows you to adjust its pitch and tone. After some time, the bar is subject to weakening, so the anchor is indispensable for pulling it in the necessary direction. In addition, the deflection is regulated when changing the gauge of strings, changing air temperature and humidity.
How do you adjust the bass anchor ? There is a special adjustment bolt on the head of the neck under the cover. It is necessary to unscrew this cover. Most guitars have a bolt at the base where it connects to the instrument body.
In order for the bass or electric to be tuned properly, first of all, you need to achieve the necessary gap between the strings and frets. Those located too far from the bar, touching the adjacent frets, begin to ring.
This happens because there is an inflection in the direction. Here it is important to understand the process and act independently, carefully tweak what is needed, and carefully monitor the result of sound extraction. You must make sure that the key for the anchor fits perfectly into the guitar and does not ruin the thread. If the key does not turn, you must immediately stop the independent "repair" and take the tool to the master.
You can also adjust the distance between the sills. The bass scale is 864 mm. To tune it, you need to change the length of each string. You need to do this only on new strings, on old ones it is almost impossible. The scale should be adjusted after the anchor and strings above the bar.
It is important to remember that tuning the bass should not be accompanied by sudden movements, otherwise this may entail undesirable consequences. If everything is done correctly, then your instrument will sound for a long time and with dignity!
