Logoneurosis - what is it? The answer to this question is few. However, most people, one way or another, are familiar with this pathological condition. About how and why it is manifested, we will tell below.
Also, a method of treating the pathology in question will be presented to your attention.
Definition of a medical term
Logoneurosis - what is it? According to experts, this is a violation (convulsive) of smoothness of speech, which manifests itself in the form of involuntary delay, prolonged pronunciation or repetition of individual sounds, words or syllables. Thus, logoneurosis is called one of the forms of stuttering, the formation of which is due to neurosis.
Features of speech pathology
Logoneurosis - what is it? This is a disease whose manifestations are intermittent. Usually they are accompanied by other disorders of a neurotic nature.
With this type of stuttering, the patient does not have stably unpronounceable sound combinations. Moreover, the logoneurosis itself is manifested only in stressful situations, when it is psychologically difficult for the patient to communicate (in the process of an important speech, at an exam, in a conflict situation, etc.).
In some sources, medical terms such as logoclonia and laloneurosis are also used to refer to this disease. Due to neurological roots, logoneurosis is sometimes associated with such a phenomenon as verbophobia or logophobia, that is, with fear (fear) of speaking.
Causes of Logoneurosis
The reasons for stuttering can be different. In most cases, this pathological condition develops even in adolescence or in childhood. The factors that led the person to logoneurosis are very individual. Experts argue that the causes of stuttering can be neurological and genetic in nature.
Prerequisites for the development of the disease
Most often, stuttering (logoneurosis) occurs due to the following factors:
- in childhood (2.5-6 years), when there is an active accumulation of vocabulary;
- with other speech disorders (for example, with a delay in the development of speech, general underdevelopment of speech, alalia, dyslalia, rhinolalia, etc.);
- in the process of pathological education, violation of family roles;
- with certain properties of the nervous system (due to increased excitability, sensitivity, vulnerability, emotional lability) ;
- with stuttering parents, as well as character traits characteristic of them;
- in adolescence (14-17 years), when stress loads increase due to the need to defend their importance in society;
- due to hormonal changes in the body;
- with infection of the central nervous system;
- with cerebral palsy (sometimes stuttering occurs with cerebral palsy as a concomitant disease);
- with endocrine disorders.
It should also be noted that stuttering in adults occurs much less frequently than in childhood. Moreover, such a pathological condition can be triggered by some kind of traumatic situation.
Symptoms of the disease
Stuttering in adults and children is the same. As you know, this phenomenon is caused by spasms of the speech apparatus, including spasms of the muscles of the larynx, palate, tongue or lips.
Spasms of the muscle tissue of the larynx are voice. Actually, this is where the concept of βstutteringβ begins, since this pathological process resembles hiccups quite strongly. As for spasms of the tongue, palate and lips, they are articulatory cramps. There are also respiratory cramps. When they occur, breathing is disturbed, and a feeling of lack of air is created.
The main symptoms of the disease
Logoneurosis - what is it? This is a neurogenic disease, which manifests itself as follows:
- Common neurological symptoms: a sense of inferiority, mental stress, fears, high anxiety, sleep problems, loss of appetite, excessive sweating.
- The main signs of a logoneurosis: repetition (multiple) of individual sounds, difficulty in pronouncing syllables or words, articulatory spasms, involuntary pauses that occur during speech and spasms of the speech apparatus.
- Concomitant symptoms: muscle tension, facial tics, lip trembling, blinking, respiratory cramps, facial grimaces and a feeling of lack of oxygen.
Types of disease
As you can see, it is quite easy to diagnose logoneurosis in children and adults. This is due to the fact that its symptoms can not be confused with signs of other abnormalities.
Three different types of logoneurosis are distinguished depending on the symptoms of the disease in question. Consider them right now.
- Clonic stutter. This condition is characterized by frequent, intrusive and repeated repetition of individual syllables, words or sounds.
- Tonic logoneurosis. This species is characterized by involuntary speech pauses and a protracted pronunciation of syllables or words.
- Mixed type. With this logoneurosis, the symptoms of both of the above types are observed.
Specialist selection
When stuttering, the patient should contact one of the following specialists:
- Psychotherapist. Sessions with such a doctor can be aimed at eliminating anxiety. Also, the patient is helped to build new habits in the process of communicating with other people. In addition, he is taught relaxation methods. One of the most effective methods of psychotherapy for stuttering is hypnosis.
- Neurologist. Such a specialist will help not only in making a diagnosis, but also direct you to an MRI and EEG examination. Also, if necessary, the doctor can prescribe a course of soft nootropics or sedatives.
- Physiotherapist, acupuncturist, reflexologist and massage therapist. Such doctors conduct therapy sessions aimed at normalizing the work of the NS.
- Speech therapist is a specialist who works directly with speech defects.
It should also be noted that the patient himself can apply the following methods: aromatherapy, phytoteparia, relaxing baths, meditation, breathing and muscle relaxation techniques.
Logoneurosis: treatment
Treatment for stuttering should be started as early as possible before the symptoms of the disease have time to fix.
Logoneurosis in children requires complex therapy. Stuttering patients should definitely meet with a child and family psychologist who will help parents of a sick child to develop a harmonious and proper parenting style, as well as create a comfortable microclimate in the family.
In some cases, folk remedies are used to treat such a disease. There are many ready-made herbal preparations with a calming effect. These include the following:
- Ordinary oregano (1 large spoon for 220 ml of boiling water, cook in a water bath for ΒΌ hours, and then insist for about 40 minutes). After filtering, the broth is taken three times a day, dividing it into 3 servings.
- Ruta odorous (1 dessert spoon of herb for 220 ml of boiling water, keep in a water bath for about 5 minutes). Adolescents and adults should take 1 large spoon three times a day. For small children, it is enough to gargle with a decoction.
- White ash or stinging nettle (1 large spoonful of grass is poured with 220 ml of boiling water, wrapped and insisted for about half an hour). Ready broth to take 1 large spoon three times a day. Small children just gargle.
