Many lovers of French cinema know the name Catherine Deneuve, but not everyone knows that she had an equally talented and beautiful-looking sister, Francoise Dorleac. It is about her that will be discussed in this article.

Biography

Francoise Dorleac was born 03/21/1942 in Paris. Her father is the famous French actor Maurice Dorleac, her mother is Rene Jeanne Simono, a theater and film actress. In addition to Francoise, two more daughters were born in this family: Catherine Fabien (10/22/1943) and Sylvia (1946). There was also an older sister - Daniel (maternal), who was born in 1939.

Since both parents were theater actors, it is not surprising that all the girls, one way or another, connected their lives with cinema and theatrical art.

In childhood, Francoise Dorleac was not obedient and was a very active child. The age difference with the younger sister Catherine was 18 months. The girls lived in the same room and were very friendly, although small quarrels arose between them.

The sisters were very different in character: Francoise had a negative attitude to smoking and alcohol, she was restrained in food, but Catherine, on the contrary, ate a lot, smoked cigarettes and was not averse to drinking.

At the age of 10, thanks to his father, Francoise participated in the dubbing of the main character in the film "Heidi". At the age of 15, the girl was expelled from the lyceum. In 1957, she entered the Conservatory of Dramatic Art and, at the same time, studied acting with Rene Girard.

Francoise played the first role in 1957 in the short film Lies. In the feature film "Wolves in the Sheepdog," the young actress played in 1960. In addition to acting, Francoise is trying his hand at modeling. For a while she worked at the Christian Dior fashion house.

Actress career

The first significant work, after which Francoise gained fame, was the role in the film "Man in Rio." In the full-length film "Tender Skin" she played the stewardess Nicole. This is one of the most successful work of the actress. The film was nominated for the Cannes Film Festival, but did not receive the desired award. The golden palm branch was awarded to the director Jacques Demy for the film “Cherbourg Umbrellas”, the main role in which, ironically, was played by the sister of Francoise - Catherine Deneuve. After the film festival, the media began to inflate the theme of "sisters rivalry."

The last work of Francoise was the film "Girls from Rochefort." In this film, she starred with her sister Catherine.

Francoise was so absorbed in work that men in her life simply did not have enough space. Unlike her, the younger sister left the parent nest early, arranging her personal life. Catherine Deneuve gave birth to a son at age 20 and independently raised him. Francoise was madly in love with her nephew, but she didn’t even think about her own children.

She had a brief affair with actor Jean-Pierre Kassel. Francoise met him at a nightclub in 1960. In a memoir published in 2004, Jean-Pierre calls the actress "the love of his youth."

During the filming of the film "Tender skin", Francoise began an affair with the director of the picture Francois Truffaut. But very quickly, their love relationship grew into a strong friendship.

Guy Bedos, who was the partner of the actress in the movie "This evening or never," in an interview with the publication "Libration" said that Francoise Dorleac was his bride.

The death of the actress

Francoise died on the rise of her acting career. This tragedy occurred on 06/26/1967. Upon returning from the filming that took place in Finland, the girl was in a hurry for a flight to Nice airport. The rush became fatal. While driving a car, the girl lost control and got into an accident. The car rolled over on the highway ten kilometers from Nice and broke out. The death of Francoise Dorleac was terrible - it burned down alive. The young actress was buried in the town of Saint-Por, where the girls spent their vacations in childhood.
