Veins in the hands - varicose veins and what to do?

Dilation of the veins in the upper extremities is a disease that has long been known to mankind. Its prevalence is great even in developed countries. One in four women and one in six men in Russia are struggling with the phenomenon of dilated veins in their arms. The development of varicose veins can lead to a special lifestyle, heredity, hormone levels, pregnancy, or even overweight. Representatives of the white race are more susceptible to the disease than people with a skin color of yellow or black.

The initial stage of vein distention in patients occurs most often as a cosmetic defect. Further, the disease can be complicated and lead to a violation of the state of health and even pose a danger to, in fact, life itself. If the veins in the hands hurt, this is a bell to check the cardiovascular system.

Look at your hands. The disease can first be seen by the appearance of spider veins and small veins, up to 2 mm thick. The veins in the arms become noticeable. In the further development of the patient, it is ascertained that the veins are varicose, feeling heavy in the hands, pain and noticing swelling. Try not to start the disease until the stage when ulcers form, it is better to consult a doctor. In our country, phlebologists, surgeons and vascular surgeons treat varicose veins.

If you notice the first signs of varicose veins, then you can slow down its further development or, in some cases, avoid it altogether, following fairly simple rules. The first is to avoid staying in saunas, bathing in hot baths and prolonged sun exposure. This all reduces the tone of the veins and can lead to blood stasis, and the veins in the arms suffer. Also, do not wear tight clothes, sleeves with tight elastic bands. All this can lead to squeezing veins. Excess kilograms and sports, which are associated with a load on the hands (weightlifting, bodybuilding, tennis), also increase vein pressure. It is better to protect your veins and not injure them.

When you feel heaviness in your hands after your working day in the evening, then hold them in a raised state during rest. The veins in the arms will β€œthank” you. If at work you are forced to sit at a table for a long time or work with your hands, then more often change their position, rotate your wrists. With diseases of the veins, there are special gymnastic exercises. After taking a shower or bath, rinse your hands with cold water. There are also useful sports such as walking, swimming, skiing and biking. Folk remedies are also good for use, namely infusions of St. John's wort, lingonberry, rosehip, cranberry. With varicose veins, it is advisable to follow a plant diet. Your doctor may be prescribed the drug "Phlebotonic." It increases venous tone and improves microcirculation.

The veins in the arms sometimes swell, especially after work. In this case, try to give them peace in a slightly elevated state, and do a contrast douche.

It is worth emphasizing that pregnant women are especially in need of prevention. During pregnancy, varicose veins in the legs and arms progress especially when pregnancy is not the first. It also does not contribute to the productive work of veins and the carrying on the hands of a child up to 1 year old. Here, the basis of prevention is bandaging of the lower and upper extremities, the use of phlebotonics before and after childbirth, or the wearing of special clothes from compression hosiery. Do not neglect the stories about the state of the veins to the gynecologist when the doctor prescribes a hormonal drug for you. These drugs have a bad effect on blood vessels, reducing the tone of the veins.

Remember, you can not self-medicate. Be sure to ask your doctor for advice on what is best done to prevent varicose veins.
