Any student who is successfully engaged in literature lessons knows what poetry without rhyme is called. Most often, such works are called white verses, but there are other names.
How to create a poem?
Rhyme is the main feature of a poetic text. However, it is possible to create poems without rhyme. This is an experiment, an attempt to find a new form. It should be noted that if the author chooses the non-rhymed type of versification, then he must follow this principle invariably. If the rhymed strings alternate with the non-rhymed strings, then you get a pun, not a verse.
Types of Poems without Rhyme
What are the verses called without rhyme, but with a clearly defined size? These are white verses. In this manner, the poet of the mid-19th century, M. Koltsov, created a number of his works. A striking example is Longfelou's Song of Hiawatha. The size of the white verse is determined as usual. Stressed syllables alternate with unstressed syllables in strict sequence. Most often, such verses are stylized either as folk songs or as epics. This is what replaces the rhyme and gives the poem a certain zest.
Another example is a rhymeless verse. An example of this is the ancient Greek poems and poems (for example, Horace).
But what are verses without rhyme called that have no particular rhythm? These are verlibres (the name comes from the French word and translates as "free verse"). They are like prose text divided into lines. The verliber appeared before the syllabic and syllabo-tonic rhyming verse. He reached his heyday in US literature. Itβs hard to write a verb. Beautiful rhyme and rhythm often help to hide any flaws in the content. In the same verse, each phrase and every word should be verified. Only a true genius is capable of creating a good free verse.
Poems in Prose
This is a special type of non-rhyming poem. Perhaps the most striking example of such works is a poem by the great master of the word I.S. Turgenev.
He devoted his poetry in prose to many topics: from the Russian language to deep, philosophical discussions about the meaning of human life and death. Unlike the verlibre, a prose poem is not divided into lines. It is written in solid text. However, poetry is not related to them in rhymes or special techniques, but in lyrical content. In such works there is no action and narration, plot and conflict, so they can not be attributed to the epic or drama.
Japanese Rhyming Verse
A non-rhyme Japanese verse is called hoku. There is, however, another variety - tank. Hokku consists of 17 syllables, and a tank - of 31. To compose a hoku, you must know the special rules of versification. The first line is 5 syllables, the second is 7, and the third line is again 5 syllables.
Tanka consists of 5 lines, in which 5,7,5,7,7 syllables, respectively. Japanese poetry allows you to briefly, succinctly and extremely figuratively describe any subject. The ability to write hoku is the ability to choose the right words, only the best, most capacious phrases are used. Of course, hoku in Russian is not so sonorous, and translations of Japanese poetry also lose their
meaning. So what are rhyme verses called? It can be a white verse, a verbal, a prose poem, Japanese hoku or tanka.
