In recent decades, there has been a real rise in interest in hard liquor throughout the world. Kilbeggan whiskey is a true Irishman, blended and possessing its original taste and character. It is these varieties, according to true connoisseurs and experts of the tasting, that brought this drink wide popularity. If earlier wine and cognac were considered to be the elite of alcohol, now the “Irish moonshine” of the brand's long exposure, for example, can rightfully win such a title.
A bit of history
Alcoholic drink of whiskey “Kilbeggan” is known, perhaps, starting from 1775. This date is associated with the small village of Kilbeggan, in Ireland, where a small distillery functioned. The first owner of the home factory is unknown, but even with him the Kilbeggan whiskey driven there became very popular not only in the local area, but everywhere in Ireland. Beer was also made here: they used the same raw materials as for strong alcohol.
In 1838, the distillery changed its owner. John Locke, by the way, previously worked at another distillation plant. At that time, Kilbeggan did not produce too much product and was considered a distillery in the Home format. The development of the brand happened in the late 19th - early 20th century, when the owner’s grandson decided to reformat the production.
World market conquest
In the course of innovation and thanks to the passage of a nearby railway line, the production of Kilbeggan whiskey has gained wide volumes. The products of this trade brand not only enter the Irish domestic market and the UK, but also appear and become very popular in America.
Such dependence on the US market played a cruel joke in the era of the Prohibition: the demand for a drink falls several times, and the distillery has to be closed. After all this, the factory changed hands, until Cooley Distillers (1987) bought the rights to the production of Kilbeggan whiskey. The new owner launched the distillation of an Irish drink exclusively for export at the purchased facilities. And in the village of Kilbeggan, a whiskey museum was launched to attract the interest of buyers in the process itself. Each year, the museum is visited by up to 30 thousand tourists.
Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey
After long downtimes, distillation of new alcohols was carried out. As a result, the new Kilbeggan was kicked out, which began to be sold in the company’s company store located in the village of the same name, and also in the popular whiskey shop in Dublin.
Traditionally, the manufacture of original Kilbeggan drinks is characterized by the presence of several rules that are respected and holy. Firstly, only local water is used. Secondly, the prepared alcohol is kept only in new oak barrels. And thirdly, only certain types of whiskey are used for blending.
