The drug "Terbinafine" (ointment): instructions

The medicine "Terbinafine" is produced in the form of tablets or ointments and is intended for the treatment of various fungal diseases. The drug "Terbinafine" (ointment) contains 1% of the same active substance and is available in tubes of 10 and 15 grams.

The pharmacological effect of this medication with instructions for its use is described as follows. It is active against dermatophytes, yeast, Pityrosporum orbiculare. The activity of the active substance of the drug against pathogens is either fungistatic (inhibitory development) or fungicidal (destructive) in nature, which depends on the type of fungus. Absorption in case of external use is 5%, which means that the drug also has a minor systemic effect.

Topical medicine β€œTerbinafine” is an ointment, the instructions for use of which list the following indications for its use: fungal lesions of the skin caused by dermatophytes, candidiasis and versicolor. Whether the active substance of this ointment has a negative effect during pregnancy is unknown, since relevant studies have not been conducted. At the same time, experiments conducted on animals did not reveal any adverse effects of the drug on the fetus.

The only contraindication to the prescription of the drug "Terbinafine" (ointment) is the increased sensitivity of patients to its components. However, some conditions require special caution in the treatment of this medication. Here is a list of them: renal and / or liver failure, inhibition of hematopoietic function of bone marrow, alcoholism, metabolic disorders, cancer, occlusive pathology of the vessels of the limbs, breastfeeding, pregnancy. With caution, it is also used to treat children under the age of twelve (due to insufficient experience in therapy).

The dosage and method of use of the drug "Terbinafine" (ointment), the instructions for its use are described as follows: it is applied externally to the lesion sites and surrounding tissues with a thin layer once or twice a day, gently rubbing. Immediately before applying the medicine, the skin needs to be cleaned and dried. The duration of the course of therapy depends on the severity of the disease and is, on average, from 2 to 4 weeks.

Regarding the frequency and duration of treatment with Terbinafine (ointment), the instructions for its use, depending on the pathology, recommends the following schemes:

1. Dermatomycosis of the feet, legs, torso - once a day, for a week.

2. Cutaneous candidiasis - 2 weeks, 1 to 2 times a day.

3. versicolor - 2 weeks, 1-2 times a day.

An overdose of this medication in case of external use is unlikely. If the drug is accidentally ingested, the following symptoms are possible: nausea, headache, stomach pain, dizziness, rash, increased urination.

Activated carbon is used to treat this condition, and if necessary, supportive symptomatic therapy is used.

When treated with Terbinafine (ointment), the instructions for its use give the following recommendations: to prevent recurrence of the disease, irregular administration of the drug and / or the likelihood of early termination of the course of therapy should be excluded. If 2 weeks after the start of treatment, the condition does not improve, it is necessary to re-determine the pathogen and its sensitivity to the drug.
