“Game of Thrones” is filmed based on George Martin’s book epic “Song of Ice and Fire”. After the death of King Robert, a power war broke out on the fictional mainland of Westeros. Meanwhile, behind the giant ice Wall in the north, erected many centuries ago, the Evil awoke and gradually gathers strength. Once upon a time, people managed to stop this Evil, but, anticipating its return, they created a defensive system on the Wall, the center of which is the Black Castle. It is inhabited by Night Watch warriors, designed to protect people from the dark forces behind the Wall and not interfere in politics. However, over the years, there are less and less sentinels, and the decisive battle between the living and the dead is approaching.
Origin and childhood of Amon Targaryen
One of the inhabitants of the Black Castle is Meister Amon. At the time of the beginning of the epic, he is very old and blind, but this does not prevent him from fulfilling his duties: to treat sentinels and monitor crows (mail birds). Few of the inhabitants of the castle know that the bald, wrinkled old man is a descendant of the noble family of Westeros and once could become a king.
The future master was born in the Targaryen family, who for many years ruled Westeros, capturing him with the help of dragons. As the third child of the fourth son of the acting king, young Amon had no prospect of once occupying the throne. His crowned grandfather, noticing the extraordinary mind of a guy, contrary to the wishes of his son, sent Amon to study as a master (scholars who took the vow of celibacy, serving their knowledge to the nobles).
When the guy turned nineteen, he brought the appropriate vows and became a master.
Meister Amon Targaryen
Having become a master, Amon condemned himself to life-long service to people of a lower origin. However, he remained the offspring of the royal family, and as his relatives died, Amon became closer to the throne.
Unexpectedly for all, Amon's father became king. Meister Amon got a chance to join the Small Council, which resolved all the vital issues of the country. However, Amon did not seek power and decided to retire from the courtyard to the castle to his brother Deiron, where he got the place of the master.
After the death of his father and older brother, Amon was the contender for the throne of Westeros. The temptation to become king was great, but Amon resisted, abandoning the throne in favor of his younger brother.
In order to put an end once and for all, he went to serve in the Black Castle, where for many years he diligently performed the duties of a master.
However, later his nephew kidnapped the daughter of one of the noblest families of the north - Starkov - and abused her. The girl’s brothers, her fiancé, and others dissatisfied with the Targaryen’s rule revolted and destroyed all of Amon’s relatives. Apart from him, only the wife of his nephew with two children who left Westeros remained alive. At that moment, Meister Amon was again tempted to claim the throne or avenge his relatives, but he overcame it.
Recent years and the death of the master
After the extermination of the Targaryen, the Baratheon dynasty ascended the throne. Despite the fact that Amon was a Targaryen and posed a threat to the ruling dynasty, mindful of his worthy behavior, he was not touched, and he lived quietly in the Black Castle.
However, after the death of King Robert Baratheon, the nobles again started a power war. By that time, Amon was very old and no longer delved into politics. Moreover, Evil began to wake up behind the Wall, and Amon understood this like no one else.
A little earlier than the start of the civil war, John Snow appeared in the Black Castle , who in fact turned out to be the bastard of Aymon's nephew (it is not known whether the master himself knew about this). Seeing a smart and worthy man in a young man, the master tried to help him. John later became Lord Commander of the castle.
Meanwhile, one of the candidates for the throne with the army is in the castle. The red priestess of the fiery deity arrives with him there. This woman was convinced of the incredible power of blood of the royal family. The priestess venerated human sacrifices as an especially effective means to achieve her goals. In order to save the already very decrepit and blinded Amon from an unenviable fate, John, together with his loyal friends, sends the master to the south. However, on the way the old man caught a cold and died.
Before his death, Amon learned about the rebirth of dragons by his great-grand niece Daenerys. He wanted to go to her, but died earlier.
Meister Amon: actor Peter Vaughn
On the screen, the image of Amon was embodied by the British actor Peter Vaughn. It is noteworthy that at the time of participation in the television series Peter was really blind.
The future great master was born in April 1923. On screen, he first appeared at the age of thirty-three in the television series Tales from Soho. After that, he often starred in episodic roles in films. Most often, he got the roles of police officers, as well as Soviet spies. Peter was married twice.
