We are talking about a popular guitarist, a member of the permanent team of the famous artist Dolphin - Pavel Dodonov. We will talk about him, his work and much more in this article.
The childhood and youth of the future musician
Pavel Dodonov was born on November 17, 1979 in Ulyanovsk. When the boy was five years old, his family moved to Snezhnogorsk, Murmansk region. In this northern city, Paul spent his childhood. Here he began his first studies in music.
In his youth, Pavel Dodonov moved to Moscow, since in a small Snezhnogorsk a career as a musician was impossible to do. Once in the capital, Pavel initially worked in a small company with a completely non-musical focus, but continued to dream about creativity, a career as a musician, and the ability to make money with this particular craft. Fateful for him was a meeting with Andrei Lysikov, known as Dolphin.
Activities in the Dolphin Group
At first, the musicians simply played together, and after some time, in 2002, they began working together. And today Pavel Dodonov appears in the permanent staff of the Dolphin team. The guitarist at concerts plays on various instruments. But in preference he has a Fender Jaguar.
The musician Pavel Dodonov actively participated in the recordings of the albums of the famous artist. In 2004, the disc "Star" and a disc recording a concert on November 19 were released. Then, in 2007, an album was recorded called “Youth”, and all the music for him was written by P. Dodonov. Andrei Lysikov's pen belongs to the texts, and he was engaged in producing. It turned out a great tandem. “Youth” became a kind of tribute to the music of the 80s, which greatly influenced the formation of Pavel Dodonov as a professional.
In 2011, the collection "Creature" appeared.
The guitarist takes part in all the concerts of the popular band. With Andrey Lysikov, Dodonova is connected not only by work, but also by friendship. In his interviews, Paul admits that he did not listen to Dolphin before meeting with Andrei. And then it turned out that his poems are close in spirit to the guitarist.
Solo work
Collaboration with Dolphin does not prevent the musician from doing solo projects. In 2011, Pavel Dodonov, through his website, made public his first solo album. The author's album, entitled “Martian Chronicles,” could be freely downloaded from his portal.
Soon another album appeared, which was also freely available for download on the musician's website. The album contains music that Dodonov composed and recorded on regular cassettes for several years in a row. The compositions reflected the mental state and mood of P. Dodonov. In one of the interviews, the guitarist described his work as a kind of soundtrack to an unreleased film.
The musical compositions in the album cannot be attributed to pop culture, they are written in the style of "low fi", that is, music for a narrow circle of people.
When working on solo projects, Pavel did not think about leaving the Dolphin team and embarking on a solo voyage, since in the person of Andrei Lysikov he found a like-minded and creative partner. Thanks to their musical tandem, fans can enjoy nascent songs.
Musician preferences and projects
Guitarist Dodonov loves improvisation. He is recording his music. And then from a half-hour improvisation, after careful listening and editing, several compositions are born.
This is often noise music that Dodonov hears in the harmony of noise. Being a fan of the water element, the musician considers the noise of the sea, the ocean to be the same noise. He is inspired by the "big water." Impressed by the read book “They took me in water to my soul ...” K. Oe he wrote the album Soul Trees Soul Whales. Paul was inspired by the protagonist of the novel, which communicates with the souls of trees and whales.
Among his musical predilections are performers John Frusciante, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Mazzy Star and others, who, during his youth as a guitarist, completely overturned his musical thinking.
From Russian music, he distinguishes the works of Leonid Fedorov and the AuktsYon collective, as well as Peter Mamonov, the Civil Defense group.
When asked whether he was a musician, Pavel often answers that he still has a lot to learn and gain experience.
Pavel Dodonov, whose photo with a guitar is presented on this page, really hardly releases his favorite instrument from his hands. In his personal collection of more than 25 different guitars, which he uses in improvised performances.
He likes the energy of the scene. He believes that music should be perceived only at the level of feelings. On stage, he sends his listeners a huge energy charge to induce them to something real and alive, to rid them of indifference and inertia.
Conceived by Dodonov, the new project is a kind of quintessence of everything that he did before. Having brought together drummer Serge Govorun, bass guitarist Alexander Lugovkin, Pavel practically created a full-fledged group for improvisation. Musicians use various genres - from Washington hardcore to Kraut rock, electronic music, free improvisation.
