The medicine "Monural" is an antibacterial drug that has a number of properties. The main active ingredient is phosphomycin, which has a bactericidal effect on gram-positive bacteria (such as, for example, Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus), as well as a number of gram-negative bacteria. The mechanism of action of Monural is associated with inhibition of the initial stage of membrane synthesis of various microorganisms.

Fosfomycin is absorbed from the intestine very quickly, and its half-life from the body is two hours. The substance of the kidney is excreted unchanged by glomerular filtration.

The drug is prescribed by doctors for acute bacterial cystitis, acute attacks of recurrent bacterial cystitis, massive asymptomatic bacteriuria during pregnancy, nonspecific bacterial urethritis, as well as for preventive purposes for bacterial infections in the urinary organs (usually during surgical interventions). Often, the medication is used for various infectious diseases of the urinary system in the postoperative period.

Before taking this tool, it must be dissolved in a third of a glass of water (one sachet). The drug is taken orally on an empty stomach once a day (two hours before a meal, before bedtime). Immediately before taking the medicine, you need to empty the bladder.

Adults are prescribed 3 g per day with a treatment duration of one day. If bacterial infections recur, older people are prescribed a double dose of Monural.

If the drug is used to prevent bacterial infectious diseases of the urinary organs during operations, it is taken three hours before the intervention or the planned study. In pediatrics, an antibiotic is prescribed for children from five years old once a day, 2 g each (special form of release is Monural Pediatric).

In some cases, after taking the medicine in people, various side effects were noted. Most often, it is heartburn, diarrhea, or nausea. Allergic reactions, skin rash are also possible.
