The pharmaceutical preparation "Momat" (the instruction states that its international non-proprietary name is mometasone) is included in the clinical and pharmacological group of glucocorticosteroids used locally.

The medication is available in the form of a cream. One hundred grams contains 0.1 grams of mometasone furoate - the active active ingredient. Among the auxiliary products are soft white paraffin, beeswax, propylene glycol monostearate, stearyl alcohol, cetomacrogol, propylene glycol, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, and also purified water.

The drug "Momat", the instructions for use include these data, have anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and antiexudative effects (due to the presence of mometasone - a synthetic glucocorticosteroid).

A slight absorption of the drug was recorded. After eight hours after a single application of the medication to intact skin (without an occlusive dressing), approximately 0.4% of the active substance is present in the systemic circulation. The preparation "Momat" (cream), the instruction informs, is metabolized most intensively in the liver. Most of it is excreted through the kidneys, the rest with bile.

The specified drug is prescribed for the treatment of inflammatory phenomena and pruritus with dermatosis, amenable to glucocorticosteroid treatment. It is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity of the patient to its components or to glucocorticosteroid drugs. In addition, the Momat preparation (the instruction warns) should not be used for rosacea, perioral dermatitis, bacterial, viral or chickenpox, fungal infections of the skin, tuberculosis, syphilis, post-vaccination reactions, and breast-feeding.

With extreme caution, it is recommended to apply the medication on the skin of the face, flaky skin, under occlusive dressings.

Since the ability of glucocorticosteroid drugs to penetrate the placental barrier has been established, prolonged treatment with the drug in question (as well as large dosages) is undesirable during the period of gestation in order to avoid negative effects on the developing fetus.

The medication is intended for external use. A thin layer of it is applied to problem areas once a day. The duration of the course of treatment is determined depending on the effectiveness of the drug for a particular patient, as well as the manifestation and severity of side effects.

The drug "Momat" (cream), patient reviews confirm this, can rarely cause irritation of the skin, burning, itching, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acne, hypopigmentation, perioral or allergic contact dermatitis, skin maceration, secondary infection, signs atrophy of the skin, striae, prickly heat. In less than one percent of cases, papules or pustules are formed. It is extremely rare that Cushing's syndrome, adrenal insufficiency and other undesirable manifestations characteristic of glucocorticosteroid drugs of systemic action develop.

An overdose of the drug is accompanied by inhibition of the hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenal systems (including secondary adrenal insufficiency). Symptomatic treatment is indicated; if necessary, electrolyte balance is restored. The drug, of course, is completely canceled. However, with prolonged therapy, withdrawal should be carried out gradually.
