Udmurtia is a region with a distinctive history, culture and traditions. To preserve the memory of the roots of creativity, the Udmurt National Theater was founded in the capital. Writers and aspiring actors found their calling in it, and the audience quickly reached for the temple of art.

History of occurrence

Back in 1923, the first drama circle was founded in the center of the republic. He acted as part of the Red Udmurt Club. After outstanding talents came there, the question arose of creating an independent theater. Promising actors wanted to perform in front of a wide audience.

Therefore, on the initiative of students of the circle and third-party theater-goers in 1931, the Udmurt Professional Theater arose. The beginning was made by the production of “The Vala River Noises”, which was masterfully directed by K. A. Lozhkin. The creator of the play was a member of Krasny Udmurt, writer I. G. Gavrilov, who continued to work for the benefit of the theater for another 40 years.

Formation and recognition

The rapid development of the cultural life of the national theater in Izhevsk began after assigning it the status of state. This happened in 1935, the theater received the right to stage works of world classics, as well as glorify its wards. For example, M. Konovalova and A. Saratov.

At the very beginning of World War II, many workers were required, so part of the theater staff was sent to the front, as well as to rear enterprises. But the leadership realized the importance of maintaining morale, so in 1942, performances continued. Over 500 performances were shown in wartime.

Promoting his national theater, Izhevsk embarked on the path of cultural prosperity. In the 50s, active cooperation began with the best theater universities of the USSR: Moscow, Leningrad and Ufa. Great attention was paid to the works of Russian classical playwrights, as well as to national works. The performances were saturated with Udmurt flavor, which was exported on tour to neighboring regions and republics.

Its current name - Udmurt National Theater of Izhevsk - received the cultural center in 1996. It has become official and still marks the theater.

Literary heritage

The National Theater of Izhevsk provides an opportunity to see live the actions from the books of Gogol, Pushkin, Ostrovsky, Moliere, Goldoni, etc. This list is supplemented by the national writers of the republic: V. Sadovnikov, E. Zagrebin, L. Perevozchikov. They have a significant position in the repertoire, as they represent the history and identity of the Udmurt nationality.

The legendary I. Gavrilov created the comedy “Golden Autumn”, which became a national treasure and a landmark event in the history of the theater. The playwright and the acting troupe became laureates of the UASSR State Prize.
