Lacornes are Thai, less commonly Filipino dramas, i.e., Asian television series. They can be based on the plot of a popular anime or manga, but mostly are full-fledged independent creations. Unlike the well-known Brazilian soap operas, Thai lacornas are intended primarily for youth audiences. Most fans of this genre are young girls under 25 years old. Thai television series are released in different genres: fantasy, mysticism, drama, but most often these are romantic comedies or melodramas. The length of such a television project traditionally does not exceed fifty episodes.
Mandatory Thai evening ritual
It should be noted that Thai lacorni in their homeland are more than popular. They are watched daily everywhere: during dinner, in cafes, at train stations, in workshops and from shop windows. For a long time, series have been a mandatory ritual in the life of the local population. More recently, Thai "soap operas" have become popular in Europe and Russia, because among the Russian-speaking population there are quite a few ardent admirers of Asian art. The first to venture to conquer the world's blue screens were dramas, i.e., Chinese, Korean and Japanese TV shows. Now they are not far behind and laconic.
Some patterns and features
Thai lacorni have a number of distinctive features that are unique to them and distinguish them from other series:
- In no such Thai brainchild creation will the viewer see scenes with passionate kisses, since it is not customary to flaunt your feelings in this state. On one of the local channels, such scenes are officially banned for broadcast.
- However, the best Thai lacorni have a ton of scenes demonstrating violence, including rape. We canât say that local directors rapturously relish all the terrible and repulsive details, but they simply include them in the plot of each project with enviable regularity. Do not try to understand this, do not analyze, you can just try to accept it.
- You will recognize the main antagonist immediately by the alarming musical accompaniment and the signature sly grin (these two features will accompany the villain throughout the entire timing).
- The emotions of the protagonists are already very hypertrophied, but itâs immediately clear where the grief is and where the joy is. This is Thailand! Thai lacorni are simple and easy to read.
- The central characters always have one or more friends who in every way contribute to their speedy joint happiness.
- The main characters always talk about themselves in the third person, for example, not âI wantâ, but âRace wantsâ. Among fans of this genre, this is considered very cute.

All western in price
It can also be considered a strange fact that everything Western that appears in the frame is considered incredibly prestigious. If the brand of clothing is only Dior and Chanel. If the house of a wealthy family is shown, its arrangement will be carried out strictly according to European standards. If the characters speak English, this is positioned as a special merit. All the rich and respected characters in the script have just returned from the United States or Europe. And so on...
For advanced fans
It's no secret that such creations of Asian cinema are very popular among teenagers, so you can find and view them in popular social networks, which modern youth is becoming a regular with. Of course, to find such a âsoapâ with decent voice acting in Russian is quite difficult. However, the Thai vaktor "Vkontakte" is offered for viewing with Russian subtitles, which is quite interesting, because the original voices and intonations of the actors are preserved.
Where to start?
If you have a desire to join the fans of this heat, you can consider two options. The first is to look at classic samples like âAbandoned Paradiseâ or âPin Anona,â the second involves studying the classification so as not to spoil the first impression and guess at least with the genre of the series. Thai lacornas, the list of which will be presented below, will be a good choice for both a novice viewer and a fanatically devoted fan.
Classics of the genre
In 2014, the Thai lacorn âHatred Againstâ was published, which, thanks to the construction of the storyline, intrigue and acting casting, can be considered the standard of this genre. Its duration is only 15 episodes, the plot is based on a mixture of romance, love and revenge. The protagonist Kin - the president of a large corporation - leads his beloved Kanok down the aisle, with whom he has been meeting for 7 years. But the bride on the eve of the wedding night decides to run to her home in order to pick up one of the forgotten wedding gifts.
At this time, the beautiful Tavan escapes from the groom, breaks the engagement, learning that he shamelessly cheats on her for two years, and his lover is pregnant.
Kanok, taking the gift, hurries to her husband along the rainy streets in his car and, not noticing the upset Tavan, knocks her down. After an accident, Kanok dies, the Tavan ends up in intensive care. Unhappy Kin hurries to the hospital in desperation to find out who is guilty of the death of his young wife, and, recognizing the name Tavan, swears revenge on her. Here is such a famously twisted plot characteristic of most Thai TV shows.
Classification by genre
Absolutely all Thai series can be divided into genre groups. However, it is worth considering that there are practically no purely genre cinema projects. In each film, and even more so in the series, you can always find the close plexus of several subgenres:
- Melodrama (aka romance). Bright representatives of this section are: âThe Heart of Akkaniâ, âThe Golden Trinityâ, âThe Bewitched Wayapakâ, âPatapi's Love Trapâ, 4 love stories - âHimalayas of Taraâ, âPin Anonâ, âTaddao Bussayâ and, of course, "In the radiance of the sun."
- Comedy These series will make you not just smile, but also burst out laughing: âThe maid with bells and whistlesâ, âThe deadline ... to get marriedâ and the classic of the genre - âRestless girlâ.
- Purely youthful lacquers: âBabyâ and âKun Chai Ronnapiâ.
- Horror / Horror. In this direction, quite a few paintings have been released, of which one can be called the âSilk Trailâ.
- Mysticism (not horrors!) - âBewitched Vayapakâ.
- Fantastic (fantasy). This section presents a picture with an interesting title for fantasy - "Love never dies."
Classification by subject and semantic load
Thai Lancors for the most part exaggerate burning topics, among which are leading:
- All varieties and consequences of a marriage of convenience: "Vanida", "One hundred ways of the insidious seducer", "Crazy wedding."
- The main character intentionally or mistakenly steals the main character: âIn captivity of loveâ, âPin Anonâ, âHow to get marriedâ, âAbandoned paradiseâ, âTies of loveâ, âThief who stole my heartâ, âCupid Networksâ, âPassionate, beautiful and lonelyâ, âLaw of honorâ, âââBitter honeyâ, âWild heat of loveâ, âRainbow flameâ, âUnder the same skyâ, âOne hundred ways of an insidious seducerâ.
- Revenge, revenge , etc.: âAnd tomorrow I will still love youâ, âIn the radiance of the sun.â
- Separately, there are serials in which there are scenes of cruelty and violence. Nervous and impressionable are not recommended. Among them: âTurn of loveâ, âBitter honeyâ, âLaw of honorâ, âââAbandoned paradiseâ, âIncredible Boâ, âIn captivity of loveâ, âOne hundred ways of an insidious seducerâ, âThief who stole my heartâ, â Rainbow flame. "
Happy viewing!
