“The highest score” is a truly explosive youth comedy that has the dynamics necessary for paintings of this genre, successful references and even parodies of many films about the robbery, a decent acting and an interesting idea.
No cliche, but with stereotypes
In the category of films about high and high school, there are an infinite number of stereotypes and cliches that, while watching, obsessively corpore the eyes of the viewer. After all, the topic is quite in demand in the cinema, there are a great many films in which it is operated. Many beginners and well-known directors have repeatedly tried to bring something new to this subgenre, some did it, others didn’t. Director Brian Robbinson managed to avoid most recognizable and boring cliches, however, the characters in the picture are still somewhat stereotyped. Among the main characters there is also the nerd Anna Ross, the masterful Francesca, the rebel freethinker Kyle, the loser Roy, just the athlete Daismond and Matt, who is positive in every way. However, this film “Top Score” did not do much harm.
Other goals in life
It just so happened that when the viewer sees the category "youth comedy", he already expects the traditional set of priorities and goals that individuals of the age category "adolescence" should pursue. Traditionally, this set does not look very attractive: with whom to go to the prom, with whom there to get the first sexual experience, by all means become the king / queen of the ball, fall in love or fall in love with someone in debate and sex in all its manifestations. But the movie “Higher Score” shows that adolescents, it turns out, have other goals in life, such as going to college. Although tons of humor in the plot are also present, but without all the same vulgar and rude jokes.
The plot is unvarnished
The six main characters on the eve of the decisive SAT exam (analogous to the USE), which should determine the fate of adolescents, decide on a daring and desperate act - to steal the correct test answers. There is no point in bumping into spoilers, even if the viewer does not know what this adventure will lead the guys to . But you should know one thing: “The highest score” is a film in the plot of which there will certainly be the first tremulous love, and overcoming disappointments after the first unsuccessful love and true friendship, and many curiosities in such an international company of main characters. At the same time, the action will develop quite dynamically, and the climax will be the main surprise for the beholder. It is the final shots that give meaning to what is happening on the screen, showing a certain sublime morality. At the same time, the creators deliberately do not strike solely in moralizing. Seeing how the main characters are revealed in the final dialogue, realizing that they gained much more as a result of their ordeals than they planned at the beginning, is incredibly touching.
Caricature of characters is not a hindrance!
“Top Score” is a film that can rightfully be proud of the cast. All the leading actors, as one, despite little experience, played decently with enviable dedication. Despite the primary caricature of the characters, each of them is fully revealed by the finale, which makes the scene lively and realistic. Among the leading actors, the most experienced in acting was Scarlet Johansson, who changed her role as a performer of deep and complex images. Her character is an ordinary girl. Nevertheless, she so successfully and reliably demonstrated all the emotions, feelings and emotional experiences that with this role she was among the nominees in the Teen Choice Award as “Breakthrough of the year for the female role”. This confirmed her stellar status. And Erica Christensen, despite her not too enormous acting experience and constant work in soap operas, was in no way inferior to her partners, her character turned out to be bright and memorable.
Male actors
Among the male actors, leading actors, stands out the cute and charming Chris Evans, who at that time appeared before the audience in the form of a particularly entrepreneurial schoolboy. His character is quite convincing and, most importantly, believable. Brian Greenberg also deserves praise , after the unsuccessful image of Jake from the picture “One Tree Hill”, he finally rehabilitated. Despite the fact that Matthew Lillard had a small, rather secondary role, the actor was terrific, even if he said only a couple of remarks. So the “Highest Score” can be proud of its successful cast. The audience will see other actors for the first time. But their work is worthy of the highest rating, so memorable, although different. The performers of the main and secondary roles - rather diverse actors (of various sizes and professionalism, with different work experience) - formed an excellent creative team.
Cinema with a rhythm
A film with a clear rhythm, completely “without water” - that's what the audience reviews say. “Top Score” is a non-stressful mix of school adventures and endless positive, filled with meaning that is so nice to know. The picture attracts with unobtrusive humor, young enthusiasm, incendiary soundtracks, a non-trivial plot and the absence of “dirt”. And although the characters sometimes play pranks, their tricks look cute. In fact, they are all, as one, positive. The verdict is unequivocal - the comedy "The High Ball" can be safely recommended for viewing by a wide audience.
