Story line
The best foremen from two collective farms located next door: Olga Stepanova (actress Vera Vasilieva) from a collective farm called Iskra and Maxim Orlov (actor Vladimir Ushakov) from nearby Zvezda have long been experiencing a bright sense of love for each other.
Unfortunately, often quarrels arise between them over different approaches to agriculture. The girl is sure that the cultivation of land plots and the cultivation of a good harvest is impossible without the latest achievements of science. But the beloved absolutely sincerely believes that discipline and good cars are the most important and necessary elements for agriculture.
Matchmaking and competition
Here comes the long-awaited day when the matchmaking should take place. But even now, Olga and Maxim can not calm down and everyone is leading their own dispute that does not end there. The result of their verbal skirmish was bitter: this matchmaking ended in a scandalous breakup.
But without the difficulties that arise, a sincere understanding of goodness does not come. After the failed matchmaking, young people each on their collective farm continue to compete in absentia with each other. With their efforts, they achieve a truly unprecedented harvest. Gradually, successes in work begin to have a life-giving effect on their relationships and matters of the heart. The foremen again begin to think about marriage.
How was the movie made?
The painting “A Wedding with a Dowry”, the actors of which showed a peculiar love story, is a film adaptation of the performance of the Moscow Satire Theater. The play itself (its original name is “Wedding”, it was written in Komi by Nikolai Dyakonov) appeared from the playwright’s pen back in 1948. This was his most famous creation. And in the following, 1949, the play premiered . The performance was played with a full house more than one hundred and fifty times. Two years later, the play was awarded a prize. Thanks to such a successful combination of circumstances for this work, it was decided to film the work.

To maximize the success of shooting the film "Wedding with the Dowry", the actors remained the same. They did not begin to change, because the audience was already accustomed to a certain cast and style of play. The star Vera Vasilieva, who became famous after Pyryev’s musical drama “The Legend of the Siberian Land”, and Vladimir Ushakov, who played his second role in the cinema, shone in the lead roles.
A few years later, after showing the film “The Wedding with the Dowry” to the mass audience, the actors and roles performed by them fell in love with Soviet film fans. The performer of one of the main roles Vera Vasilyeva was interviewed. She recalled how shortly after the appearance in the theater of a fun play about collective farm life, director Boris Ravensky made a real miracle. She happened to play the bride Olga.

The actors involved in this performance (Tatyana Peltzer, Vladimir Ushakov, Vitaly Doronin) received bags of warm, kind letters from grateful spectators. Critics composed laudatory odes. The screen version of the performance was no less successful. Vasilyeva admitted that the picture turned out to be somewhat simple, naive, even popularly, but after all, people who lived at the time when only a few years after the war ended needed such tapes in which one could see the fun and credulity of the Russian soul, beautiful attitudes and competition, which led to higher yields. The actors of the film “Wedding with the Dowry” tried to give it to them.
