Retinal detachment: symptoms and causes of the disease

Vision is the greatest gift nature has given us. As you know, most of the information we get through visual communication with the world. And if suddenly this communication is limited or, which sometimes happens, narrows to the minimum limits, a real tragedy occurs.

Diseases of the organs of vision. The most complex and difficult among them is the detachment of the retina.

The retina is the main part of the eye that is responsible for the conversion of light rays into nerve impulses that it transmits to the brain. A person’s vision directly depends on her condition. Therefore, untimely detected retinal detachment or improper treatment can lead to partial loss of vision or, as often happens, to blindness.

Symptoms of retinal detachment are expressed in the rupture of the retina and the penetration of fluid from the vitreous body of the eyeball under the retina, which contributes to its separation from the choroid.

Retinal rupture is most often formed when it is thinning or dystrophy, as well as various eye injuries. The result of many eye diseases can be an extension of the vitreous body or the so-called traction, which can also contribute to rupture. In this case, the vitreous body becomes cloudy, its fibers associated with the retina are compacted. With eye movement, they pull it. This is the reason for the break.

Tumors or any other formations between the retina and choroid can also cause retinal detachment. Symptoms indicate that it can occur with circulatory disorders, stress, physical overload and various infections.

The appearance of a sensation of a veil in front of the eyes clearly indicates that there is a detachment of the retina. The symptoms that indicate this disease, it is important to remember and then pass on to the doctor, and not try to get rid of the shroud yourself with drops and washes.

“Flashes”, “sparks” and “lightning” are also silent signs of the development of this disease. They are the first to give a signal that something is happening to the eyes.

If the detachment has already captured the central part of the retina, then there is a distortion or loss of objects, letters, whole separate sections of the picture of the world.

Sometimes a person notes that vision improves somewhat. But this is an apparent sensation. If the patient is in a horizontal position, the retina returns to its original place, but when a person stands up, it again moves away from the choroid and vision is lost again.

Increased pressure, the appearance of a feeling of strabismus, and distortion of the visible picture say that retinal detachment occurs. Symptoms indicate a risk of chronic inflammation, cataracts and complete loss of vision.

If you periodically check visual acuity, then detachment of the retina, the symptoms of which are diagnosed, can be prevented. Diagnostics includes measurement of internal eye pressure, study of lateral vision, fundus examination . A study of the eyes using ultrasound will give a clear picture of the state of the vitreous body and retina.

It is impossible to cure retinal detachment, the symptoms of which are already pronounced, using tablets or drops. The ability to save eyes and restore vision can only be given by surgery. During the operation, the surgeon makes a kind of "gluing" of the reticular and choroid.

The most common methods used in eye surgery and used in the treatment of retinal detachment are filling and vitrectomy.

When filling, a “laser” is used for “gluing”, and with the help of vitrectomy blood, scars and other formations are removed from the vitreous body.
