The Collector (Marvel) is a character who, thanks to immortality, has existed for about five billion years. He is an Elder of the universe and has been living estranged since his wife died. Once another Elder - Grandmaster, helped him return his spouse, but she did not take root, so she died again. As a result, the Collector (Marvel, photo below) reconciled with his loneliness and began to look for a suitable occupation. And he found him. He liked to collect rare things, as well as interesting inhabitants of the universe. And there were reasons for that.
The fact is that Tanelir Tiwan had a vision that someday the universe would disappear. Even the elders will disappear, and the cosmic villain Thanos will be to blame. Hence his hobby. True, collecting rare life forms often brought him trouble, because many did not want to become his exhibits at all.
Avengers Hunt
Over time, the place on the huge ship ended, and Tiwan “The Collector” (“Marvel”) began to look for other repositories for his hobby. He had to buy a planet, then another, and soon rare specimens collected from the surfaces of hundreds of different planets were stored in his warehouses.
When he got to Earth, his attention was attracted by the Avengers - a team of powerful superheroes. Inspired by their exploits, he immediately wanted to replenish their collection with them. But he managed to captivate only some of them, and then not for long.
For example, he caught Wasp, Beetle and some other Avengers. He was going to use them to capture the Hulk. But that was a bad idea. As a result, the green mutant escaped, freeing many other prisoners.
Tiwan Zoo
Anyway, contact with earthlings nevertheless provided the Collector with certain opportunities. He managed to build a huge underground zoo in Canada. There were exhibits such as the alien Fin Fang Foom, the monster Droom, the winged dragon Grogg, the intelligent tree Groot, and other creatures. He liked all these unique creatures. This is probably why he was so drawn to Earth. The only problem was that he often left his zoo unattended.
Once his underground vault discovered a creature from the underworld - the Mole-Man. He released all the monsters so that they would rise to the surface and make a mess there, because Mole had long been hating all of humanity. Fortunately, the half-blind man’s plan wasn’t fulfilled, as the Hulk, the Giant Man (Hank Pym) and the Fantastic Four quickly calmed the monsters.
Brothers Team
Time passed, and Tiwan’s craving for earthly inhabitants only grew. In desperation, the Collector (“Marvel”) decides on a terrible act - to destroy the planet in order to calmly pick up everything he needs. To do this, he decided to use the Brothers, a deadly team created by an alien race of bacteria. After all, there is nowhere easier - to arrange a powerful alien escape, so that they did all the dirty work.
The "brothers" attacked the Earth, where they were met by the Avengers. But after long and large-scale battles, the bacteria realized that they had been manipulated all this time. Therefore, they turn against Tiwan and defeat him.
Thor Trap
Once on Earth, serious weather changes began to occur. And the thing is that a living planet Ego flew past, which was created by a certain Stranger. Wanting to find out what was the matter, Thor went to the Elder, but the Collector (Marvel) received him with hostility, and a small battle ensued between them. Tiwan had to stop the fight, because he was worried about his collections. True, he did not drive the god of thunder, but showed him his exhibits, among which was Alter Ego - the twin of the planet Ego, also created by the Stranger for the purposes of the experiment.

Thor did not like the fact that Tanelir Tiwan was locked up such a powerful creature. He vows to free the prisoner, but the Collector (Marvel) has already unraveled his plan and, using an elemental named Zephyr, has lured Thor into a trap. It is sent to a special repository intended for particularly intractable instances. It only turned out that Zephyr had long been acquainted with the Asgardian God, so she helped him escape, and he freed Alter Ego. Having learned about the betrayal of the assistant, Tiwan is going to send her to the Black Hole, but she manages to escape.
Abilities
Like any Elder of the universe, the Collector has certain abilities:
- Immortality. An old deal with Death doomed Tanelira to eternal life. He does not get sick, his body cannot be injured, even he can restore lost limbs. Unless, of course, spray it into atoms, as a cyborg named Korvac once did.
- The gift of foresight. Yes, he can see the future. That is how he was able to foresee the threat in the face of mutant Thanos.
- The increased characteristics. The collector ("Marvel") has an incredible supply of strength, stamina and agility. But how, after all, he is the Elder of the universe.
- The use of cosmic energy. This ability helps him change his height and appearance, as well as perform energy attacks.
- Increased intelligence. Over a long life, the Collector has received a tremendous amount of knowledge, so he is an expert in many fields.
- Combat technology. At the disposal of Tanelir is a lot of offensive items: lasers, guns, bombs, combat suits, potions and all kinds of weapons. And how else can he protect his favorite collections?
Collector (Marvel): The Movie
The collector appears in the movie Thor 2: The Kingdom of Darkness, where Benicio Del Toro played his role . There, Lady Seth asks him to pick up Ether from Asgard so that he will not be kept together by Tisseract.
And in the fantastic action movie Guardians of the Galaxy, Tanelir Tiwan first gets the Infinity Stone, but then loses one of his museums.
