Jonathan Edward Bernthal was born on September 20th, 1976 in the American city of Washington, DC. He grew up in the Jewish family of Joan Lurie (nee Marx) and lawyer Eric Lawrence "Rika" Bernthal, who works in one of the most prestigious law firms in the world.
His paternal grandfather, Murray Berntal, was a producer and musician. My mother’s grandfather was German, and the remaining ancestors of the family were emigrants from Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Austria. In the family, John Berntal was not the only child, he has two brothers - Thomas and Nicholas.
He studied at the Sidwell School of Washington. After graduation, he was educated at Skidmore College in New York State.
He later came to Moscow, studied here at the famous Moscow Art Theater School. During his studies at the Moscow Art Theater, John was professionally involved in baseball in the European Federation.
