In the late autumn of 1991 on Soviet television, the broadcast of the series “The Rich Cry Also” began. For the whole country, this turned out to be a cultural historical frontier. Although before this the series “Slave Izaura ” was already going on, but it was the first Mexican telenovela that became the event that divided the era of our television into “before” and “after”. Almost everyone watched this series, regardless of age, gender or social status. The plot was actively discussed in public transport, queues in the store and on benches in front of the porches. And the names of some characters even smoothly transformed into common nouns. One of these characters is Choli's mom. Who is this and why her name is still used, we will try to remember.
Appearance in the series
The main character Marianna, who is experiencing a difficult quarrel with her husband, who threatens her with a divorce and does not recognize their child, is leaving the street with her newborn son in her arms . In the park, she meets a seller of lottery tickets - a lovely woman who is trying to console her. Not realizing what is happening, Marianne gives her son a saleswoman and leaves. After that, she ends up in a psychiatric hospital, from where, after a while, she is taken away by her thoughtful husband.
Marianne, realizing what she had done, rushes in search of her son. But she knows nothing: neither the name of the woman, nor the place where everything happened. So in the story appears Choli's mom. Who is this, Marianne finds out only after a long seventeen years, during which she will tirelessly seek her son.
Place in plot
Meanwhile, Choli's mother, the heroine of the unfolding drama, selflessly takes up the upbringing of the child whom she always dreamed of. She does not tell the boy whom Beto named (short for Alberto), the story of his appearance, but raises him as a native. The woman justifies her deed by the fact that, apparently, the rich have their own quirks, and since the biological mother did not appreciate her happiness, then she will certainly take care of the baby.
A boy from a very young age calls his adoptive mother Choli 's mother . Who said this for the first time and why it happened like that, history is silent. But in everyday conversations, and with direct treatment, Beto calls her nothing more than Choli's mother. For the majority of viewers, this phrase (both “mother” and name) sounded, to put it mildly, unusual. Little by little, it began to enter into everyday life. At first in an openly humorous manner, and then somehow gradually took root.
Specific traits
Choli Lopez did not live well. In order to pay the rent, she even had to rent an apartment with her friend. For many years she worked as a saleswoman for lottery tickets. But, in spite of everything, for her adopted son, she was ready to make any sacrifice. Food, clothing, education - Don Choli was determined to provide Beto with all this. She loved the boy and tried to give him all the best.
The adoptive mother did not neglect the upbringing of her son either. She diligently cultivated good qualities in the boy and, as she could, taught manners. That was Choli's mom. The meaning of this nickname in the post-Soviet space has become synonymous with a caring mother. Women for whom the child is always in the first place. Concerned about his well-being and the future a little more than common sense dictates, but without obvious distortions towards full and undivided custody and control.
Storyline denouement
Seventeen years after their first and only meeting, the scriptwriters once again confront their mother Beto Marianna and mother Choli. Who is this, Marianne understands immediately. She recognizes in an elderly woman the seller of lottery tickets, whom she once gave her son. From this moment on, their storylines are closely intertwined. Marianne takes on the responsibility of taking care of her son and his adoptive mother. Doña Choli supports her in this, in every way contributing to Beto's rapprochement with her mother. And in this case, the woman shows herself from the best side, thinking primarily not about herself, but about the well-being of the young man. Thus, her positive role is finally confirmed.
