The three children from Zoshchenko’s story “The Great Travelers,” a summary of which we will discuss below, decided to go around the globe and return to their village of Peski. What came out of this venture, the writer told us with good humor.
What does Minka introduce us to?
Mink was only 6 years old. He, of course, did not know what form the earth had. Styopka opened his eyes to him, an older boy who was the son of the owners of the dacha, where the Minka family lived in the summer. Styopka was older and confidently declared that the earth is a circle. You can go around it all and go back home. But Minka did not believe. Then Styopka gave him on the head and promised that he would tell his sister Lelka about this and take her on a long journey around the world. Minka also wanted to see the whole earth with his own eyes and, to appease Styopka, gave him a penknife. Styopka liked the gift, and he, as Zoshchenko recounts in The Great Travelers, whose brief outline we began to expound, agreed to take Minka with him.
Collection
In the garden, a cheerful trinity arranged a serious meeting. It was decided to hit the road tomorrow, when dad and mom brother and sister leave for the city, and mother Styopka will go to the river to wash. Everything is narrated in the story “The Great Travelers” by Mikhail Zoshchenko, the summary of which we are considering. The route leader chose the easiest route: you need to go only straight ahead. Let there be mountains, rivers, deserts, Indians - there is nothing wrong with that. They began to gather right away.

The stepper brought an empty flour bag, and they put everything necessary into it: lard, sugar, bread, spoons, plates, glasses, a jug, a washstand, a magic flashlight, a magnifying glass to light a fire, 2 blankets, a pillow, a fishing rod, a net, three slingshots. Lelya promised to take another three rubles from the piggy bank, and Styopka said that they would be very useful for buying sweets and seeds. So talks about the plans and fees that the great travelers did, Zoshchenko. We will continue the summary of the story in the next chapter.
Vicissitudes of travel
Pusik Tuzik ran ahead along the road that led through the forest. Styopka followed him and carried a bag on his head, behind him with a rope - Lelya, and after all - Minka with a net, slingshots and a fishing rod.

An hour later Styopka was tired of the bag, and Lyol carried it. But this did not last long. The girl handed it to her brother. He marveled at his gravity, bent under him and staggered. After 10 steps, Minka fell with a bag into the ditch. The washstand, glasses, and plates were broken, and Tuzik managed to grab the fat from the bag and quickly deal with it. After these adventures, the three of them carried a bag. They were still uncomfortable and hard. Having reached the lawn, the guys made a halt. Then Styopka made a statement that he would always sit down or lay his legs forward along their route so as not to go astray. He was sure that all the great travelers do this. Zoshchenko, the summary of the work of which we are setting forth below, says that a lunch with bread and sugar led to a painfully bitten bee bitten on the cheek by Mink. The cheek immediately turned into a "pillow" and was very sick.
Night in the forest
After the rest, the guys threw all unnecessary from the bag. Now it has become much easier to go. Styopka briskly walked ahead, and Lelka and Minka trailed behind him. They wanted to go home. But the harsh Stepan promised that he would tie the traitor to the tree and give it to the ants to eat. Minky had a severe bite, and he moaned and sobbed.
Only Tuzik had fun. It’s getting dark. It got dark. Styopka stopped, put down the bag. Everyone began to gather brushwood to light a fire. A magnifying glass was brought to a pile of dry branches. There was no sun in the sky, and the fire did not catch fire. Everyone was sad and ate in the dark of bread. As Stepan had intended, he again went to bed with his feet forward in order to know the exact direction in the morning. He quickly fell asleep. This is only part of Zoshchenko’s story “The Great Travelers,” a brief summary of which is held before the reader.
Two tricks
Minka and Lelka could not sleep. They were afraid of the forest, its bushes and the night noise of trees.

Lelka suddenly saw a snake, and the girl screeched loudly, but she turned out to be a dry branch. Suddenly, a lump fell from a tree, and Minka got scared. In the end, the children fell asleep. Early in the morning, when it began to get light, Lelia woke up her brother. She wanted to go home. She invited Minka to turn Styopka with her legs in the opposite direction. And so they did, and the boy almost did not feel anything, only muttered something in his sleep. The children decided that he was dreaming of the Indians, and he calls them to help. Only the first rays of the sun woke him, and he immediately looked at his feet, as if it were a compass. He said with satisfaction that it was now known where to go. Everyone again had breakfast with bread and hit the road. M. Zoshchenko's “Great Travelers” continues his story with humor, a brief summary of which shows how the cunning of the brother and sister worked.
Road
They walked together in the same way as they went yesterday. Styopka kept turning his head and was incredibly surprised that he recognized these places. Only he was firmly convinced that it should be so, because the earth is a circle. Behind the guys they heard from the creak of wheels that a cart was traveling behind them. When she caught up with them, they asked them to give a ride. The charioteer allowed them to sit down.
They drove only less than an hour, and the village of Sands appeared. Styopka did not believe that it was she, but only was amazed. But all doubts disappeared when the children saw the familiar marina to which the steamboat approached. We continue a brief retelling of the story by M. Zoshchenko “The Great Travelers”.
Marina meeting
Styopka’s amazement had no end: “Really, have we gone around the whole earth?” Brother and sister chuckled slowly. Meanwhile, they saw their nanny, who ran with a loud cry and told something to their parents and grandmother who returned from the city. Brother and sister also ran to them.
Parenting talk
A summary of Zoshchenko’s story “The Great Travelers” continues. Learning about what their children were doing, parents and grandmother reacted differently. Mom decided that the son and daughter should be punished. Grandmother quickly prepared a branch for flogging. Papa prudently and calmly said that “everything ended well. And the flogging will not be of any use. The children themselves realized that they had done stupidity. " Mom said with a sigh that it was big nonsense: to become travelers, not knowing the geography and multiplication tables. Dad added that this is not enough. “It is necessary to complete the five courses of the institute, to know cosmography. Those same people who go on a long journey without this knowledge come to sad results. ” And they all went home and sat down to dinner. Parents gasped and laughed at the adventures of travelers.
Styopka and Tuzik
Now the story of M. M. Zoshchenko “The Great Travelers” is coming to its end, a brief summary and the end of which now everyone will know. For education, and so that Styopka thought it over thoroughly, his mother locked him for a whole day in the bathhouse.
He was released the next day. The children began to play together again. The tuzik, having run after the cart for an hour, was very tired and slept all day. Only in the evening did he eat and fell asleep again. What he saw in a dream, no one knows. And Minka dreamed of a tiger, which he smashed on the spot with a slingshot.
Story characters
The main characters of Zoshchenko’s story “The Great Travelers” are: Styopka, Minka, on behalf of whom the story is being told, and his older sister Lelya. We will consider each of them in turn.
Styopka is a fun inventor and organizer who always wants to stand at the head. He is by nature a brave and inquisitive leader. He is tired of everyday life, and he wants to see distant lands. With this dream, he infects neighboring city kids. Styopka carefully, as far as knowledge allowed him, took the objects necessary for travel, and got a bag for them. Of course, there was a lot of superfluous in it. A washstand, for example. But it says that all children respect hygiene. Styopka is a strong boy. He carried a heavy bag for almost an hour. And the fact that this is a child is underlined by M. Zoshchenko with humor. He considered it necessary to use Lelin's money to buy seeds and sweets. The boy firmly decided to go around the whole earth, and he was not afraid of meetings with the Indians, whom he proposed to take prisoner. This is also his humorous characterization, which the author gives him. Styopka’s behavior is also funny when he went to bed with his legs extended towards the upcoming campaign. But this speaks of his unwavering desire to see the whole world. As befits a child, Styopka sincerely believes that their venture will succeed, and they will see the whole earth and the heroes will return home.
Minka is the youngest of children. He himself can offer nothing, but only he listens to everyone and is surprised at everything. With good humor, M. Zoshchenko describes how Minka at first walked carefree behind everyone, carrying fishing rods, a net for catching tropical butterflies and slingshots, and then, when he received a bag with common things, fell into a ditch. Minka is small, so even a fallen cone can scare him at night.
Lelya, as an older sister, is more courageous and strong, but very cunning. It was she who came up with how to stop the long journey without quarrels and disputes: to take the sleeping Styopka and turn his legs in the opposite direction. She is not at all greedy and donates 3 rubles for the trip - that’s all she has. Of course, she is scared at night in the forest, and even a dry branch at first seems like a snake. As befits a girl, carrying a heavy bag, she quickly gets tired and passes it to her brother.
Mikhail Zoshchenko, “Great Travelers”: analysis
The story of a sad person who knew how to make his readers laugh with good humor is comically called “Great Travelers”. “Great” the author called his little heroes with good humor. They are kids, imagining themselves adults and smart, wanted to go on a long journey around the earth and see unknown places. Their leader, Styopka, picked up some information from simple books and generously shared it with friends. Well, for example, he offers to light a fire with a magnifying glass, to fry the meat of killed small animals on it. The guys do not represent real life and in everything agree with the great inventor. Children can’t imagine how serious the task is, and therefore, when you read this story, you laugh at their gatherings and further adventures. The conclusion that should be drawn from this story: all children should learn to laugh at themselves and often ask parents how their actions are correct.
