Allergic rhinitis is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa. It occurs when inhaled allergens contained in the air. This can be mold spores, animal hair, flower pollen, dust, etc. The reaction to an allergen can be different: from ordinary sneezing to difficulty breathing and impaired heart function, which can lead to anaphylactic shock and even death. Therefore, treatment of allergic rhinitis should be regularly carried out for people suffering from this ailment.
Allergic rhinitis is divided into 3 types :
- seasonal rhinitis - it appears during the flowering of trees and other plants. There are three periods when the peak of incidence is observed: the end of spring (in April - May), when alder, oak, birch, and ash blossom. d .; early summer (June and July) - the time of allergy to cereal plants, and late summer (August and early September) when ragweed, quinoa, wormwood bloom ;
- year-round rhinitis occurs with allergies to dust accumulating at home. In this situation, allergens are ticks that live in house dust;
- occupational rhinitis is an allergic reaction that occurs in people whose work is associated with contact with other types of dust or various chemicals.
Symptoms that occur when allergic rhinitis occurs :
- discharge from the nose;
- nasal congestion;
- sneezing
- sore throat;
- redness and tearing of the eyes;
- itching in the nose;
- cough;
- loss of ability to distinguish odors;
- swelling of the nasopharynx.
All these symptoms lead to headaches, irritability, sleep disturbance, overwork. In almost half of cases, allergic rhinitis passes into a chronic inflammatory disease of the respiratory tract - bronchial asthma.
Treatment of allergic rhinitis .
The first thing to do to get rid of the disease is to stop contacting with the allergen. If this is not possible, you have to resort to local medicines. These include vasoconstrictors (nasal drops - "Naphthyzin", "Galazolin", "Nazivin"), which contribute to the rapid removal of the edema of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity. But it should be remembered that the systematic treatment of allergic rhinitis with these agents can lead to depletion of the nasal mucosa, as a result of which the discharge will only increase.
Also, for the treatment of allergies, medications of the Cromon group are used (Lomuzol, Cromohexal, Kromosol), which relieve nasal edema and soothe itching. These drugs practice the treatment of allergic rhinitis in children, since they practically have no side effects.
With the ineffectiveness of the above treatment, hormonal drugs from the group of corticosteroids are prescribed (Nazarel, Bekonase, Aldetsin). The method of administration and dosage should be prescribed by a doctor, since if they are used incorrectly, the patient's condition can only worsen.
In the period of exacerbation of allergic rhinitis, it is recommended to combine local and general drugs. The latter include antihistamines (Suprastin, Zodiac, Claritin), which block the production of substances that trigger an allergic reaction.
