In Hollywood, the pictures of one hero are often shot when the person of the leading actor is important, but not other actors. Water World is just such a film. It is worth seeing only because the main role is played by the Hollywood star Kevin Costner. What was the Water World film about and who directed it?
Filmmakers
Who made the film "Water World"? The director of this picture is a very outstanding person for American cinema. We are talking about the very Kevin Costner - the star of the film "The Bodyguard" with the participation of Whitney Houston and the owner of two Oscars.
Who would have thought, but the talented actor turned out to be also a talented director: Costner's debut film âDancing with the Wolvesâ earned an Oscar on the move. The difficulty of working on this tape was also in the fact that Costner not only directed "Dancing with the Wolves", but also played the main role in the film.
Costner began work on the Water World tape in 1994. As a second director, Kevin invited the namesake Kevin Reynolds, who also worked on the films Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves and Tristan and Isolda.
Behind the camera was Dean Semler, who had once shot Dancing with the Wolves and the post-apocalyptic action movie Mad Max-2.
The producers of the film "Water World" were Kevin Costner, John Davis ("Predator-2") and Lawrence Gordon ("Street Fighter").
Short story
The actors of the film âWater Worldâ tell the viewer a story that happened in the post-apocalyptic world - after the whole Earth was flooded with water from melted glaciers.
People huddle in colonies that spread out in the middle of the ocean. On the water they move on different types of boats. Life on water continues to develop according to the same principles as on land: there are respectable citizens, and there are criminals and thieves, whom everyone nicknamed "cigarette butts." "Cigarette butts" furrow the sea to find the mythical island of real land that supposedly survived after the flood. They also rob everyone who comes in their way.
The main character performed by Costner is a simple sailor. He sells land, which he raises from the depths of the sea. But in one of the colonies he was mistaken for a smuggler, seized and sentenced to drowning in a swamp. During a search of the protagonist, gills were found, as well as a tattoo with some coordinates on the back. Rumors quickly spread throughout the colony that the Sailor knew where to look for land. From now on, the character of Costner will have to escape not only from law enforcement officers, but also from "cigarette butts."
The actors involved in the film. Water World: Kevin Costner as Sailor
Kevin Costner is a native of the sunny state of California. In his youth, the future actor did not even think about becoming a Hollywood star: after school, he went to get a marketing profession. While studying at the university, Costner began to play in an amateur theater and realized what he really wanted from life.
From now on, a student marketing at night takes paid acting lessons. And after graduation, he begins to attend numerous auditions. In 1982, Costner gets a role in Ron Howard's comedy Night Shift. Then the actor had to perform a number of episodic roles, until he got into the project "American Lightning" by John Badham and played a major role in it. There are many good films in Costnerâs filmography: âThe Bodyguardâ with Whitney Houston, the Oscar-winning âDancing with the Wolvesâ, Clint Eastwoodâs drama âThe Perfect Worldâ.
If we talk about the "Water World", then mostly little-known actors starred in it. "Water World" is a tape of one star - Kevin Costner. Unfortunately, the picture was not very successful and for a long time damaged the actorâs reputation: with a budget of 180 million in the United States, it was possible to collect all 88 million dollars. The situation was saved by world hire, which allowed a total of $ 264 million to be raised. Also, Water World was nominated for an Oscar for best sound.
Water World: actors and roles. Denis Hopper as Deacon
The role of the main villain in the film went to Denis Hopper. He embodied the image of the leader of a gang of "cigarette butts" named Deacon. But Denis did not do his job as well as the other actors. The Water World became for him a picture for which Hopper received Golden Raspberry as the worst actor.
Hopper began his film career back in the 50s, having acted since then in more than 150 films. The most famous of his works in cinema were the West of Wedge Eastwood âRaise Them Upâ, the drama by Francis Ford Coppola âApocalypse Todayâ and the detective thriller âBlue Velvetâ by David Lynch.
Genie Tripplehorn as Helen
Another little-known actress played a major role in the film "Water World". The characterization of the actors Costner and Hopper is more or less clear. But the Djinn Tripplehorn, who played in the film the lover of the Sailor, is better known in the theatrical environment than in the cinema.
Throughout her film career, which began in 1992 with the film âBasic Instinctâ, the Djinn received only two main roles: in the film âFirmâ, in which Tom Cruise also participated, and in the film âWater Worldâ.
In total, there are only twenty two films in the filmography of the actress.
