So, the bright holiday of Easter is approaching. On this day, it is traditionally customary to give each other colorful eggs - krashenka. How and how do you color them? We recommend using only natural dyes for eggs - it is simple and safe for the health of your loved ones. And what else is worth paying special attention to? This will be discussed in our article.
Rules and methods for coloring eggs
When using dry chemical dyes, it is usually not necessary to boil eggs in them; just place the ready-made eggs in the solution prepared according to the instructions and let them stand for the required time.
There is another way in which artificial consistency paints are used. In this case, boiled eggs are greased with a coloring compound and triturated well until completely dry.
If you use natural dyes for eggs, the technology is somewhat different. First, a decoction is prepared, then it is infused for a while, and only then are the butter brewed in it.
When working, consider some tricks:
- Soak the eggs before cooking for a while at room temperature. This is necessary so that they do not burst during cooking;
- the shell must be intact, without damage;
- pre-wash and dry the prepared eggs;
- cooking time should not exceed 10 minutes, otherwise the product will be tasteless;
- to create floral ornaments and patterns on eggs before cooking, attach beautiful leaves to the shell and wrap them with a capron;
- wipe the prepared, slightly warm dyes with vegetable oil to give them a shine.
The most popular natural dyes for eggs
In the old days, only natural raw materials were used to paint Easter eggs - fruits, vegetables, herbs, tree bark. And in our time, such dyes for eggs are very popular, as they are harmless to health (unlike chemical powders). Most commonly used:
- Onion peel. Depending on the volume of material used for painting, the color of the dyes may turn out to be light yellow or dark brown.
- Beetroot juice. Gives eggs pink and burgundy shades. To stain the eggs, prepare a solution: grate the beets, pour in water and boil for 20-30 minutes. In the resulting strained broth, add a few tablespoons of vinegar and a little salt, then put eggs in it and cook for 5-10 minutes. Let it brew to cool.
- Spinach. A bright green color will turn out if the eggs are boiled in a pre-prepared solution. To do this, boil chopped spinach for 30-40 minutes.
- Birch leaves. Use them to get yellow shades of dye. Leaves can be taken not only fresh, but also dried. Pour boiling water over them, boil and let it brew for a more saturated color. Then the eggs prepared for painting should be lowered into a warm solution and cook after boiling for 10 minutes.
