History of the drink

The Cuba Libre cocktail was born at the end of the 19th century. At that time, Cuba was at war with the Spaniards for its independence. Neighboring America sent troops to help the Cuban people. Together, the Allies were able to stop the onslaught and free up the capital engulfed in fire. To celebrate, the soldiers decided to celebrate a great event and went to one of the bars of Havana. However, at that moment, only Coca-Cola (the favorite drink of the Americans) and the famous Cuban rum were available at the counter . One of the captains asked the bartender personally for him to mix the drinks together and throw a few pieces of ice into a glass. In those years, America had already learned how to make artificial ice, which was widely used to make soft drinks. The resulting mixture exceeded all expectations, and the commander in joy said a toast: "Long live free Cuba!" The soldiers supported him with one voice. On this festive day everyone drank only a new drink. The Cuba Libre cocktail pleased them.

A lot of time has passed since then, but the fame of the famous drink has not died out. Now it is cooked everywhere. You can go to any country, and in almost every drinking establishment, the bartender will certainly offer a glass of fragrant Cuba Libre. Over the years, dozens of varieties of this drink have appeared, but only Cubans themselves can make a real Cuba Libre cocktail. The secret is that it must definitely be Cuban rum. No other strong drink can replace it. And where else can you freely find such a rum? Only in Cuba. After Columbus brought reed to this country, many years passed before the local population learned to make rum from it. It is considered the strongest in the world. The unique taste of real cane Cuban rum makes the Cuba Libre cocktail a symbol of proud little Cuba.

Variety of flavors

Cuba Libre is a cocktail loved by millions. Many bars in different countries prepare drinks that are made on the basis of this cocktail. The initial recipe is taken as the basis, but during the preparation, some ingredients are replaced by similar ones. For example, instead of real Cuban, they use white or gold rum. Sometimes lime is replaced with lemon. And if, instead of Cuban rum, you take the famous Bacardi 151 and keep the remaining components in the same quantity, you get a new cocktail with a completely different taste. Specialists called it the Cuban Crisis. Perhaps if Cuba ever ends with rum, then you will have to drink just such a mixture. It turns out much stronger than Cuba Libre. This is due to the fact that in Bacardi the alcohol content is 1.5 times higher than in Havana Club.
