Sore throat, no temperature? So it's not a cold?

We are somehow used to thinking that sore throat is the first sign of an impending cold or flu. Usually, other symptoms follow - the temperature rises, aches appear throughout the body, the nose blocks, and tears flow from the reddened eyes with a stream. But it often happens that the throat hurts, but the temperature does not rise above the usual 36.6 ° C, and, often, such symptoms mislead not only the patient himself, but also his attending physician.

In what cases does this happen?

The most common cause of sore throat is precisely colds - ARI or SARS. And often they are almost asymptomatic - a sore throat, no temperature, the patient feels only a slight general weakness and headache. However, due to the lack of high temperature, one should not ignore the disease, since in the future this can lead to serious complications. You should not risk your health and endure the disease "on your feet." The best option would be to stay home, call a doctor and take all measures for a speedy recovery. Rinse with natural antiseptics - tincture of calendula, chamomile or sage will help relieve inflammation and sore throat. A warming compress on the neck and chest, such as mustard, will be very useful. To relieve pain, you can also use absorbable lozenges with menthol (Strepsils, Tyuns, Mentos, etc.) or anesthetizing aerosols with an antiseptic (Hexoral, Kameton, etc.).

No less common causes of sore throat are pharyngitis and laryngitis - acute inflammatory diseases of the pharynx and larynx. It is pharyngitis that is most often characterized by sore throat in the absence of a high temperature. The reason most often is pathogenic microorganisms that have fallen on the throat mucosa and caused inflammation. But not always, for example, acute pharyngitis often happens due to cold or very dry air. Often a sore throat occurs after jogging in cold weather or with severe nasal congestion, when a person is forced to constantly breathe through his mouth, as a result of which the mucous membrane quickly dries up and gets irritated. In this case, unpleasant symptoms usually go away after a few hours. To reduce pain and inflammation in the throat, it is recommended to drink warm (not hot) tea or milk, gargle as often as possible with calendula or chamomile infusion, and dissolve lollipops with mint and an antiseptic from the pharmacy.

But if you take the disease not seriously enough, then untreated acute pharyngitis easily turns into a chronic form. In this case, pathogenic bacteria remain in the body and under favorable conditions, for example, when weakening the immune system, hypothermia, during prolonged conversations, inhalation of cold air, they again begin to multiply actively. It is chronic pharyngitis that is most often characterized by the fact that the patient simply has a sore throat without fever. In this case, like any chronic disease, pharyngitis requires a serious approach to treatment under the supervision of a doctor.

Another of the most common causes of severe sore throat is tonsillopharyngitis, or tonsillitis. It is generally accepted that angina is always accompanied by fever, fever, inflammation of the lymph nodes and purulent plaque on the tonsils. However, this is far from always the case. For example, with catarrhal sore throat, the patient’s only complaint to the doctor is often a sore throat, no fever. At the same time, tonsils are usually greatly enlarged, but without purulent plaque. The patient feels severe discomfort in the throat, swallowing is difficult and is accompanied by severe pain. But in any case, angina, even if there is no high temperature, should be taken with all seriousness. With improper or untimely treatment of angina, even without dangerous symptoms such as fever, it is fraught with very serious complications.

The cause of sore throat can be periodontitis, stomatitis and other inflammatory diseases of the teeth and gums. In this case, pathogenic microorganisms with saliva enter the pharyngeal mucosa, where they begin to multiply actively, causing inflammation and pain. Aphthous stomatitis in adults usually occurs with the following symptoms - a sore throat, no temperature, aphthae form on the mucous membrane of the mouth and larynx - small ulcers with purulent plaque, submandibular lymph nodes are noticeably enlarged.

Also, a foreign body can become a cause of sore throat. Especially in this regard, fish and dishes from it are dangerous. Fish bones are very thin and sharp, easily dig into the mucous membrane, and even a very small bone can cause severe pain and discomfort. Often, children, playing in nature, swallow small particles of grass or cereal "awns", which also easily dig into the mucous membrane of the throat and get stuck there, causing excruciating pain. The main signs indicating precisely the presence of a foreign body are: it causes a sore throat, no temperature, a strong desire to “cough up”, a feeling of a “lump” in the throat, moreover, when swallowing, the pain intensifies sharply. You should never try to pull yourself a foreign object from the throat. As well as the folk method, advising to chew and swallow a crust of bread, it does not always give a positive effect, but on the contrary, often this method entails the “leaving” of a foreign object only deeper into the esophagus, which seriously complicates the task for doctors to remove it later . In this case, the best option would be to immediately seek medical attention from specialists.

A sore throat often appears after an injury, for example, a scratch caused by swallowing a bone or a too large piece of food. Also, too hot a drink can cause a burn of the throat mucosa. The main symptom with traumatic damage to the mucosa is a sore throat. There is no temperature, with a burn, redness may appear at the site of damage. Often in such cases, pain may not occur immediately, but only a few hours after the traumatic event. The main treatment is the exclusion of hard foods, very hot or very cold drinks from the diet. To relieve pain and as a disinfectant, absorbable candies from a pharmacy, as well as gargling with calendula or chamomile infusion, are suitable.
