At one time, an extremely popular hand-drawn French cartoon of the 60s about the friends Asterix and Obelix was extremely popular. After almost forty years, the French director Alain Shaba tried to create something as popular, only in the form of a feature film. So the picture âAsterix and Obelix: Missionâ Cleopatra âwas born, the actors of which told the audience another story of the adventures of a tireless couple of Gauls.

In the film Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, actors Christian Clavier and Gerard Depardieu composed an inimitable duet: the small and agile Clavier plays the sensible and judicious Asterix, and Gerard Depardieu plays the huge, insatiable and very comical Obelix. By the way, the actors are not the first time to meet on the set: together they already worked in 1995 on the comedy "Between an Angel and a Demon."

Given the growth and texture of Gerard Depardieu, it was difficult to imagine anyone else as a simple-minded, but stupid Obelix. Although in the 80s Depardieu had a completely different role: he shone on the screens in the guise of a âtoughâ guy who is well adapted to life, moderately cynical and, of course, knows how to give change. This was especially evident in comedy duets with Pierre Richard, where the latter got the roles of fools and a muddler, against which Depardieu seemed just a genius.
However, over time, Depardieuâs appearance began to change, and the Frenchman realized that it was time to âforgeâ from the role of macho into good-natured, simpletons, and possibly even naive fools (as in the duet with Jean Renault in âUnluckyâ 2003). In the film Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, the actors Depardieu and Clavier played about the same game: Obelix is âânaive and prefers to think less and work more with his fists; Asterix is ââthe exact opposite of his friend. All that unites these heroes is kindness.

In the comedy Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, the actors Clavier and Depardieu, or rather their on-screen heroes, went to the rescue to their friend, the architect, Numbernabis. This role in the film was played by a little-known actor Jamel Debbuz. Subsequently, the actor appeared in a film called âAsterix at the Olympicsâ, and even before filming in the âCleopatra Missionâ, Jamel played Lucien in the comedy âAmelieâ.
In the story, Numbernabis is the most unfortunate architect that could only be found in Egypt. But when a dispute arises between Caesar and Cleopatra, it turns out that there is no one to build the palace promised to the Roman emperor by the Egyptian queen - everyone is busy. Then, frivolously, Cleopatra entrusts this mission to Numbernabis, promising to execute him if the architect fails. Among other things, Numbernabis needs not only to keep up with the construction site, but also to fight off the intrigues and attacks of his rival, the architect Goblinus.

The actors of the film Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra boast a good reputation and rich filmography. For example, the role of Cleopatra went to the famous actress of Italian origin - Monica Bellucci.
This is not to say that Monica has outstanding acting skills, but she has the glory of a recognized sex symbol, so director Alain Shaba decided to give the role of the charming Egyptian to her.

However, Darmon did not fail to appear in Soviet cinema: he was entrusted with the main role of George Danelia in his tragicomic film "Passport".
