An atheroma is an epidermal or follicular cyst inside filled with secretions of a cyst or a pasty substance. We can say that atheroma, the treatment of which depends on the stage of development, is a subcutaneous capsule containing a curd mass.
Sometimes a hole is observed in the middle of the atheroma formation, contents with an unpleasant color and smell can stand out from it. Formations can be single or multiple.

The most common cause of atheroma is obstruction of the ducts of the sebaceous gland or swelling of the hair follicle.
The appearance of atheroma is affected by hormonal and hereditary factors.

Most people at least once in their life suddenly have atheroma. More often it happens in men aged 20-30 years, over time, the formation increases in size.
The most common phenomenon is atheroma on the back, somewhat less often it develops on the earlobe, on the neck, face, chest, shoulders or on the head.

A sebaceous secretion is released from the hole on the surface of the skin, which can cause bacterial infection, which is manifested by a complication in the form of soreness and suppuration. In this case, the inflammatory process is removed, and then the atheroma capsule is already removed.
Atheroma, the treatment and removal of which is not complicated by infection, is removed by planned surgical intervention. An accurate diagnosis is made by a specialist after an ultrasound scan and examination by a dermatologist and oncologist.

The doctor tells the patient what technique will be used to anesthetize, the operation, and what is the expected duration of the recovery process. Removal of atheroma occurs within the time agreed upon with the patient or on the day of treatment at the clinic.
With the surgical method of treating atheroma, it is proposed to use different methods:
- in the place on the skin where the greatest swelling of the formation is observed, the surgeon makes an incision, squeezes out the contents of the atheroma through it, and then removes the capsule of the atheroma or cleans the cavity of the formation;
- the skin is dissected over the formation so that the capsule is not damaged, then the skin moves from the atheroma and the capsule with its contents is squeezed out onto the surface;
- atheroma is excised from two sides with bordering cuts covering its opening, then with scissors it is “peeled” on the skin.

This method involves the removal of atheroma when using high-frequency radio waves that vaporize the atheroma capsule. The operation is performed under local anesthesia, and its duration does not exceed 15 minutes.
