An increase in body temperature is unpleasant, not only in itself by feelings, but also because the body is bad and it is trying to defeat the problem that has arisen. To cope with high fever, pharmacy offers a huge range of drugs, one of the first positions in which analgesics are. But is it possible to give "Analgin" on temperature to children? The dosage, features and mode of use of this medication should be agreed with the attending physician, especially when it comes to a child.
A bit of history
Oddly enough, but the medicinal substance, which is known in Russia under the name "Analgin" and is actively used as an anesthetic and antipyretic, was discovered back in 1920. The German scientist Ludwig Knorr, who studied organic chemistry, discovered and studied the production of chemical compounds belonging to the pyrozole group. It was in this group that the chemical substance metamizole sodium, called "Analgin," entered.
Possible with caution
Like many synthetic medicines, “Analgin” has a double effect on the human body: on the one hand, it helps to get rid of pain and heat, and on the other it can harm health in general due to the side effects. In many countries, metamizole sodium is banned due to the risk of complications in the form of agranulocytosis - a decrease in the level of leukocytes in the blood, in which the body becomes more susceptible to bacteria and fungi. Today, the drug "Analgin", the indications for use of which are indicated in the instructions, is approved for sale in the pharmacy network of Russia without a doctor’s prescription, but has been removed from the list of vital medicines.
Antipyretic analgesic
When prescribing the drug "Analgin" from temperature, the dosage should be strictly observed for children in order to avoid the occurrence of an adverse reaction. Metamizole sodium, which is the active substance of this drug, has an analgesic and antipyretic effect, also this substance has a slight anti-inflammatory effect. The use of "Analgin" as an antipyretic is more effective compared to other well-known drugs such as ibuprofen or paracetamol. But if you compare "Analgin" and "Aspirin", then the latter will be more effective at elevated temperatures.
When to use?
The drug "Analgin" reduces the temperature and eliminates pain in many cases. Indications for use of this drug are:
- algodismenorea (menstrual ailments);
- toothache;
- biliary colic;
- intestinal colic;
- myalgia;
- migraine headaches and other headaches;
- neuralgia;
- burn pains;
- post-traumatic pain;
- renal colic;
- sciatica;
- joint pain
- insect bites (an allergic reaction in the form of pain at the site of a bite and fever).
Feverish conditions often occur with painful sensations of various etiologies and locations. Therefore, "Analgin" on temperature for children (the dosage is used in accordance with the age as prescribed by the doctor) or for adults is prescribed quite often.
How is it produced?
The drug brand "Analgin" is available in several forms:
- tablets,
- candles
- ampoules for injection.
Each form of drug release is used in certain cases. So, the tablet form is convenient for use by adults. For children, only for medical reasons it is more convenient to use candles. Injections have, let us say, accelerated action.
Tablets from the temperature "Analgin" have in their composition 500 mg of the active substance metamizole sodium. As additional components, tablet-forming substances such as magnesium stearate, talc and / or starch are most commonly used. Suppositories contain 100 or 250 mg of the drug substance per unit. The composition of the injection solution includes 500 mg of metamizole sodium per 1 ml of solution. Ampoules are available in a volume of 1 or 2 ml.
How does “Analgin” bring down the temperature?
A medicinal substance called "Analgin" has the ability to relieve pain and lower body temperature during fever. These effects are achieved due to the fact that metamizole sodium, and this is the active substance "Analgin", blocks a group of enzymes called "cyclooxygenases", which are responsible for the symptoms of diseases - pain and heat. Also, "Analgin" increases the pain threshold and enhances the heat transfer of the body. It is on these factors that the use of metamizole sodium as a medicinal substance is based.
If the child has a fever
An injection of “Analgin” from temperature is one of the most effective, quick-acting ways to bring down a painful fever. With this method of using the drug, a small amount of metamizole sodium is found in the blood unchanged. But with oral administration or with rectal suppositories, this chemical is not found in blood plasma. Metamizole sodium reaches its therapeutic activity in 2 hours after taking the Analgin tablet, although it begins to act as an antipyretic and analgesic drug 20-40 minutes after administration. Although other antipyretic drugs are most often prescribed in pediatric practice, the attending physician may show the use of the drug "Analgin" on temperature for children. The dosage in this case must absolutely accurately take into account the age and body weight of the baby.
The use of analgin in pediatrics
Each parent probably thought about whether it is possible to give “Analgin” to the child from the temperature, when the need arose. But this drug can be used for symptomatic treatment of heat in children only as directed by a pediatrician. Most often, antipyretic drugs are prescribed that are indicated for use in pediatrics - Paracetamol and Ibuprofen. But the most effective "Analgin" at high temperature, although its effect is quite short - only 2 hours. If the attending physician gives a recommendation for the use of "Analgin" to treat a child, then parents should know in what doses this drug can be used:
- Until the baby reaches 3 months, this drug is prohibited in the treatment of even high fever.
- For children up to a year, it is recommended to use "Analgin" in the form of rectal suppositories, dividing one candle with a face value of 100 mg in half.
- "Analgin" from the temperature of the child (3 years) is allowed to give in a dosage of 200 mg in the form of suppositories.
- Children under 7 years old, starting from the age of 3, can tolerate up to 400 mg of metamizole sodium in one day in the form of rectal suppositories.
- A child from 7 to 12 years old should be given no more than 600 mg of Analgin per day.
As for the tablet form of this drug, the dosage remains identical to the rectal use of suppositories, but the tablet should be crushed and given to the child a plentiful drink in the form of pure water without tea, milk or juice.
When "Analgin" can not be used?
The drug "Analgin", the indications for use of which is pain and fever, should be used in strict accordance with the instructions. For the use of metamizole sodium, the active substance "Analgin", there are many contraindications:
- a history of agranulocytosis;
- an allergic reaction to metamizole sodium and other derivatives of pyrazole or pyrazolidine;
- bronchial asthma due to the use of "Analgin";
- congenital hemolytic anemia;
- intermittent porphyria in the acute stage;
- intolerance syndrome of drugs of the group of analgesics or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- arterial hypotension;
- unspecified acute surgical pathology (blurring of the symptomatic picture).
When using "Analgin" as an antipyretic or analgesic, it should be remembered that this medicine can not be used in a course, it is used only to eliminate unpleasant pain and heat syndromes. A qualitative examination and diagnosis of the disease that caused these symptoms, and adequate treatment for an established reason are necessary. Metamizole sodium passes into breast milk and through the placental barrier, so women should not use Analgin during pregnancy and lactation.
What problems can cause reception of "Analgin"?
If there are no contraindications to the use of metamizole sodium and the drug "Analgin" is used to relieve heat and pain, you should carefully consider the patient after applying a dose of the drug, since "Analgin" can cause the following adverse reactions:
- the development of agranulocytosis - a decrease in the level of blood leukocytes with an increase in the number of monocytes and granulocytes, which leads to an increase in the susceptibility of the human body to the adverse effects of fungi and bacteria;
- granulocytopenia - a decrease in the level of blood granulocytes against a general background of a decrease in the level of leukocytes;
- the development of thrombocytopenia - a condition characterized by a decrease in blood platelet levels and, as a result, an increase in bleeding of the body and possible problems with stopping bleeding;
- hemorrhages - hemorrhages in various organs and tissues;
- hypotension - the development of a steady decrease in blood pressure;
- tubulointerstitial nephropathy - non-bacterial inflammation of the intermediate kidney tissue - interstitium;
- manifestation of hypersensitivity.
The use of "Analgin" is an effective, but short-term way to lower body temperature and relieve pain in many diseases. But the use of this drug should be extremely cautious, single. Although the pharmacy network dispenses the Analgin drug without a prescription, it is not worth using it yourself in treatment, only the doctor will evaluate the patient’s condition, especially if this patient is a child, and will give recommendations for eliminating adverse symptoms.
