There are many mental disorders and diseases that have appeared recently. Some of them seem so unusual or even ridiculous that it is difficult to imagine how they could be perceived in past centuries. Such diseases include bulimia. The consequences, causes and treatment of it will be considered in this article.
What is bulimia
Bulimia is nothing more than an excessive craving to absorb food, which is then removed from the stomach with the help of artificially induced vomiting. This disease has appeared recently, but at the moment it is very common. For the most part, girls aged eighteen to twenty five suffer from it. Bulimia, the consequences of which can be very serious (a fatal outcome is not excluded ), is treated very hard and can return again even after a person has undergone a full course of treatment.
The first stage of this disease is characterized by the absorption of food in large pieces, without chewing and, as a rule, very quickly. The second stage is characterized by artificial induction of vomiting.
Symptoms of bulimia
Bulimia makes people closed, unsociable, secretive. They can observe constant fluctuations in mood. Patients feel lonely and helpless, since the subconscious mind still understands that bulimia will not bring to good, and get rid of it does not work.
Often there are throat diseases:
The following problems also occur:
- tooth decay;
- deterioration of the skin;
- digestion problems;
- menstrual irregularities;
- hoarseness;
- constipation
- exhaustion of the body.
People who have bulimia very rarely admit to themselves and others that this is really a real problem, which is difficult to get rid of. Of course, denying the fact only contributes to the development of the disease, since they do not even want to think about what is dangerous bulimia.
Causes of the disease
Oddly enough, little is known about its causes. However, with certainty we can say that it would not exist if it were not for the abundance of false ideals and values that we see everywhere today. TV, the Internet - this is all where we get information about what we need and what we don’t need to be. The image of the popular Barbie doll made many girls complex because of their appearance, and also look for all sorts of ways to lose weight. Gradually, this turns into a mania and leads to the fixation of all thoughts only on their appearance. The result is constant stress, and many are used to fighting it with food. Again, a paradox is obtained, since losing weight and eating plenty of food are incompatible. Many see a way out of it in vomiting, which is caused artificially.
Bulimia: consequences
In about five percent of cases, it all ends in death. Bulimia, the consequences of which are examined here, is harmful to the entire body. A person simply “dries up”, the digestive tract begins to work worse, teeth deteriorate, vision deteriorates, hair falls out. One cannot ignore the fact that bulimia strongly affects the psyche - patients with bulimia are only a few steps from psychosis and complete insanity.
How to deal with bulimia
To realize that it is a problem is already half the battle. You can get rid of it on your own only if you have great willpower, as well as a great desire to return to normal. Most often, bulimia is treated in special medical institutions. Treatment must be comprehensive. Usually the course includes:
- taking medications;
- diet
- conversations with a psychologist;
- physical exercise.
A good indicator in the treatment of bulimia is that the patient ceases to give up sweets.
