Key cells in the smear: alarm

Before you start talking about key cells in a smear, you need to clarify what laboratory tests they occur in. So, bacterioscopy involves the study of bacteria under a microscope, better known in modern gynecology, as a smear on the flora. This is where extremely unwanted key cells can be detected. What does it mean?

Key cells in the smear are squamous cells indicating vaginal dysbiosis. At the same time, a gardnerella stick is attached to their walls, giving them a specific grainy appearance. Such a pathology is fraught with consequences, since it can significantly undermine the immune system and provoke the disease due to the large number of conditionally pathogenic microflora.

In order to understand the seriousness of the appearance of key cells in a smear, you need to familiarize yourself with the consequences of their occurrence in the body. In case of imbalance in the microflora in the vagina, a disease such as bacterial vaginosis or gardnerellosis begins to rapidly progress. Diagnosis of these diseases is carried out with the explicit detection of key cells containing many pathogenic microorganisms. The productive elimination of such abnormal cells is aimed at suppressing the growth, reproduction of bacteria and restoration of normal vaginal microflora.

So, the key cells in the smear are a characteristic sign of bacterial vaginosis, which can bring its owner a lot of unpleasant sensations, become a cause for concern. However, here it is necessary to take into account the correctness and accuracy of the study of this medical analysis. First of all, it is necessary to pay special attention to the number of leukocytes, since their high rate may indicate the presence of an inflammatory process in the body. In addition, different pathogenic cells — rods or cocci — may dominate the analysis; in particular, key cells in the smear can be visually observed. And this already says that it would not hurt to sign up for a consultation with a specialist. It is important to note that pregnant women are especially prone to such a pathological phenomenon, since during this period their productivity of the immune system is significantly weakened, and pathogenic microbes overcome the weakened body.

If the results of a correctly performed smear on the microflora revealed key cells, treatment should be prescribed immediately. First of all, it is necessary to clarify that the goal of productive treatment is the elimination of atypical cells as a characteristic symptom of bacterial vaginosis. Recovery requires a comprehensive drug approach, and an intensive care course recommended by a specialist should be taken exclusively by a woman as a carrier of the source of infection. Such a treatment should be prescribed by the attending gynecologist, based on the form of the disease and the specificity of the sick body in each clinical case.

At the beginning of the course, it is necessary to use such medicines as clindamycin and metronidazole, which are released in the form of tablets or in the form of suppositories. After these medications completely clear the vaginal microflora of pathogens, regular use of medications containing beneficial lactobacilli is necessary to restore the familiar environment. Such drugs are Acylact or Narine. If key cells are found in the smear, treatment should be under the strict supervision of a physician.

At the end of the course, the patient (patient) re-passes the smear for a detailed laboratory study, which will show whether there are key cells in the smear or not.
