The cuisine of the East is rich in a variety of dishes - all of them are fragrant, hearty and delicious. Manti is one of the most popular treats in the East. This dish is somewhat similar to dumplings, which we are so used to eating in Russia. Only manti are much larger in size, and in shape resemble a pouch.
The filling of manti is minced lamb and onion. The dough is very thin, simple in composition and practically without eggs. The main distinguishing feature is that manti is steamed. Cooking semi-finished products is unacceptable.
The housewives may have a question: how to cook manti without a pressure cooker and a double boiler? The article will consider the classic recipe, features and methods of preparing the named dish.
Classic recipe
For cooking you will need:
- flour - 1 kilogram;
- egg;
- minced meat (preferably lamb) - 1-2 kilograms;
- onion - 5 pieces;
- salt;
- pepper;
- butter - 70 grams;
- water is a glass.
The cooking procedure is as follows:
- Peel the onions well. Rinse the vegetable and cut into small cubes. You can use a chopper of vegetables. Add chopped onion to the minced meat. Add salt and pepper there, mix everything thoroughly and remember with clean hands.
- Sift flour and a pinch of salt through a sieve into a deep dish. Make a small depression in it, break the egg into the hole made, and add water from it. Knead the soft dough. You may need a little more water. The dough should not be tight.
- Roll out the dough. For ease of preparation, divide it into three equal parts. Roll each one thinly. Divide the rolled dough into small squares, the length of which is about 15 centimeters.
- In the center of the squares, lay out the stuffing from the minced meat.
- Connect the corners of the squares as follows: lower right and upper left, lower left and upper right.
- Once connected, blind together the left and right ends.
The dish is cooked in a special device for about 40 minutes, but we will consider how to cook manti without a pressure cooker.
Cooking features
It should be noted right away that, regardless of how the manti will be prepared, with a dish that is not yet ready, it is worthwhile to make several simple manipulations:
- It is necessary to grease each product profusely with softened butter or, in extreme cases, vegetable. But only the bottom of the product needs to be lubricated.
- Prefabricated foods must not be frozen. Although some chefs recommend performing this manipulation, since after freezing, manti becomes more juicy.
- Some gourmets advise frying the semi-finished product in vegetable oil until crisp. Usually this manipulation is carried out immediately before cooking, and not after it.
The easiest way to cook manti is steaming in a special device called a mantle. However, you do not need to buy it if you have never cooked the described dish. After all, you cannot know in advance whether you will like it or not.
How to cook manti without a pressure cooker
And if you donβt have a pressure cooker, then donβt be upset. You can find alternative ways to cook this dish. Next, we will talk about the simplest ways to cook it.
For example, if you have a crock-pot with the function "Steam cooking" in your kitchen, then you can safely cook manti in it. To do this, you need to do the following:
- Pour enough water into the multicooker bowl.
- Turn on steaming.
- While the water in the multicooker heats up, generously grease the baking tray for steaming with butter.
- Lay the prepared manti on it and set it already over boiling water.
The duration of the preparation depends on the size of the products and the power of the multicooker. On average, manti are cooked in this way for about 50 minutes.
Colander cooking
This is one of the easiest ways to make manti. There is a colander in every kitchen. To prepare a dish in this way, you will need a wide and high pan.
How to cook manti in a colander:
- Fill the pan with water so that the liquid level is about 8 centimeters from the bottom of the pan.
- Take a colander that can be placed over the pan. Please note that the colander should not touch the water!
- Put the water in the pan boiling.
- Lubricate the bottom of the colander with butter or vegetable oil.
- Put the manti there.
- Set a colander over boiling water.
In this way, the dish is cooked for about 30 minutes.
Cooking with gauze
This cooking method is similar to the previous one. Only instead of a colander, a clean gauze folded in several layers is fixed over the pan, which should sag a little.
After boiling water and placing semi-finished products on gauze, it is necessary to cover the manti with a lid that will not come into contact with them.
It takes about 30 minutes to prepare manti using gauze.
Frying pan cooking
This cooking option is not so popular, but very convenient. Here's how to cook manti without a pressure cooker using a pan:
- Grease the pan with butter (do not use vegetable oil).
- Heat it well.
- Spread the manti in a pan at a distance of 1-2 centimeters from each other.
- After 5 minutes, add boiled water so that it completely covers the semi-finished product.
- Cook manti should be about 30 minutes over medium heat (the water should boil slightly).
Finally
One single drawback of all the cooking methods listed is the small portions. At a time, you can cook no more than 5 products, which means that you will have to cook in several approaches.
If you like this dish and you will be sure that you will cook it often, it is better to buy a pressure cooker in order to reduce the cooking time several times.
