Each person at least once in his life feels pain in his stomach. And often he does not even know the reason for their occurrence, and therefore chooses the wrong direction of treatment. Recognize a cry for help and timely help the body, and therefore yourself, a small excursion will help you.
In modern medicine, there is such a term as “gastralgia”, which means pain in the stomach. This symptom may be present in the presence of various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract - poisoning, gastritis, ulcers, tumors and other inflammatory processes. Therefore, if there is pain in the stomach, it is very important to diagnose their nature, intensity and localization, for the further appointment of effective treatment.
The intensity of gastralgia directly depends on the type of disease. For example, chronic gastritis causes less intense pain in the stomach, so a person with this diagnosis may not even pay attention to them for a long time. Also, mild pain sensations occur with cancer and peptic ulcer. It is worth noting that after surgery, many patients may not feel them at all. Severe pain is present in the presence of a perforated ulcer, the intensity of which can be so high that the development of pain shock is even possible. A very significant gastralgia also gives duodenitis.
The nature and degree of pain in the stomach is determined by the individual pain threshold of a person, therefore, it is wrong to judge a disease based on only the patient’s personal sensations. Moreover, the presence of pain symptoms may also indicate complications. As a rule, people who have been diagnosed with chronic gastritis complain of a high intensity of gastralgia due to joining the underlying disease of colitis, pancreatitis or cholecystitis.
For your own safety, it is necessary to distinguish when the appearance of pain occurs due to intestinal hyperperistalsis, and when it is a consequence of a serious pathological change in the body.
Medicine distinguishes several common types of pain.
1. Cramping pains in the stomach, otherwise called colic. Their appearance is accompanied by wave-like attacks, the strength of which increases or decreases. Such pain occurs due to an extension or contraction of the intestinal wall, and is caused by excessive gas formation, an infectious inflammatory process, or stress;
2. Painful conditions representing the greatest danger were combined into the concept of "acute abdomen" (acute forms of disease). The nature of the pain is intense, diffuse, often the temperature rises and severe vomiting appears, and the muscles of the abdominal wall are tense. It is forbidden to take painkillers before the arrival of an ambulance;
3. Abdominal constant pain. This type is quite constant and stable. The description of "burning in the abdomen", acute pain , cutting or "hungry" fits under it. This species appears as a consequence of dangerous inflammation in the abdominal cavity, ulcerative lesion, abscess, or acute pancreatitis;
4. Periodic pain in the stomach, characterized by the fact that it appears, then disappears. They are usually associated with chronic diseases or infections of the intestine. If such pain has appeared, immediately consult a doctor, preferably with the results of an ultrasound scan and tests for dysbiosis. Typically, for an accurate diagnosis, you will be asked the following questions:
• whether pain occurs after eating;
• strength and frequency of their occurrence;
• whether they appear during menstruation;
• location of the pain point and the possible area of distribution of pain;
• describe pain - pulling, burning, stitching, cutting, and so on;
• what procedures bring relief - medications, enemas, massage, heat or cold;
5. They diagnose another type of pain in the stomach - neurotic, which in its origin is not associated with intestinal diseases. As a rule, they arise after shocks and psycho-emotional stress. In this case, the pains even sometimes have a strong intensity and resemble an "acute abdomen" in their signs. In such cases, only an examination by several specialists will help establish the true cause of the origin of pain.
