In the second season of the cult television series Game of Thrones, viewers got to know the two brothers of the late ruler Westeros, Stannis and Renley. If the elder raised few questions, the younger was very interested in the audience, especially those who read the book. Among other things, Getin Anthony (Renly Baratheon) - an actor from Britain who has become famous throughout the world thanks to this role aroused genuine interest.
Who is Renly Baratheon
According to the plot, a decade and a half before the beginning of the story on the fictional continent of Westeros, a revolt was raised against its ruler. As a result, King Robert Baratheon came to power. However, his wife cheated on him with her brother, because of which all the children of the monarch were bastards. Fearing revelation, she organized the murder of her husband and raised the bastard son to the throne.
However, the Queen's adultery became known. Because of this, the younger brothers of the deceased - Stannis and Renly, considered that they had more rights to the throne, as representatives of the ruling dynasty. Each of them declared himself king and began to assemble an army to conquer the throne. But if Stannis really had legal rights, as the eldest in the family, then Renly Baratheon (actor Gethin Anthony) began to fight for the throne from childhood.
Indeed, since childhood, he was more interested in entertainment than in politics. Being a smart and strong man, Renly at the same time paid too much attention to his appearance. Possessing a refined taste, he, like a true esthete, longed for beautiful things and people to surround him.
When a bastard sat on the throne of the seven kingdoms of Westeros, Renly seriously began to fear that their dynasty would be removed from power. Although Stannis was the rightful heir, Renly thought it would be nice to take the Iron Throne himself. This decision was more like an adventure than a deliberate step. However, Renly's claims were supported by one of the most powerful houses of Westeros - Tirella. The pretender to the throne even married Margaery Tyrell to strengthen their union.
Despite the reckless act of Renly, he had excellent chances to become king. However, his older brother, using magic, killed an opponent right in his tent.
Renly Baratheon - actor Gethin Anthony
The role of Renley was played by Briton Gethin Anthony. Despite his rather youthful appearance, he is already over thirty (born in 1983).
As a child, the actor changed several educational institutions, among them was the famous Tiffin School. Here he was the head of the school. In the following years, Getin periodically returned to alma mater as a part-time acting teacher. In addition, he is also a member of the jury at various Tiffin School events.
After school, the young man went to study British literature at Oxford University. Here he managed to prove himself well - he became president of the Drama Society of Oxford.
After Anthony became interested in the career of an actor, he continued his studies at the Academy of Music and Drama in London.
Actor career
Back at the university, Getin established itself as an excellent theater actor. He played in various productions at the Northampton Royal Theater, the Birmingham Repertory Theater, the Hampstead Theater and others.
One of the greatest achievements of Getin's theatrical career is the role of Cyrano de Bergerac in the play of the same name on the stage of the Oxford Theater. In addition, a few years ago he had the chance to play Gregory in the production of Boris Godunov by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Beginning in 2006, Anthony, a promising person, was invited to act in films. He appeared in episodic roles in the films Pinochet in Siberia, Copenhagen and others.
On television, the future Renly Baratheon achieved great success. The actor starred in separate episodes of the television series "Holby City", "Doctors" and "Ten days before the war." In addition, in the project โCall the Midwife,โ Anthony got the role of George Saint.
Since 2015, this actor plays in the television series "Aquarius" of the famous American killer Charles Manson.
Participation in the Game of Thrones project
Renly Baratheon (actor Gethin Anthony) is a rather complicated character. During the search for the performer for this role, applicants were warned that they would have to participate in fairly explicit sex scenes, which were so famous for the first seasons of the Game of Thrones.
However, unlike other characters, Renly in the series was portrayed as a homosexual (which was not mentioned directly in the book, but there were a few hints at this). In this regard, many actors involved in the casting for the role of the younger Baratheon did not want to act in scenes depicting sex between two men. But Gethin agreed to this and was soon approved for the role.
In total, Anthony starred in 8 episodes from two seasons of the project. Many viewers liked his Renly Baratheon (photo of the actor in this image below), although those who read the book were less enthusiastic about the game of Gethin.
In any case, after participating in the Game of Thrones, the career of this artist is on the rise and the audience will have more than one meeting with him in other projects.
