Martins Wilsons is a Latvian Belmondo, athletic in build, with the same bright nose as that of the famous Frenchman. In 1983, after the release of the movie "Mirage" directed by Alois Brench, Wilsons became popular throughout the Soviet Union. He was recognized by millions of viewers. And although 35 years have passed, the older generation still remembers the insidious boy Al Kitson from a tragic and insightful detective film. His creative work in theater and cinema will be discussed in the article.
The beginning of life
Martins was born in December 13, 1954, in the village of Transportny, Magadan Region, where his parents, Roland Chekhovich (Pole) and Zenta Wilsone (Latvian) were serving years of exile, along with fifty thousand Latvians - officers, legionaries, and soldiers. Mama Martins studied for the actress, but someone told authorities that she plans to flee the Union to Sweden. There was no long clarification, the 20-year-old girl was sent to Siberia, where she met Roland. Parents have been in exile for more than ten years. Martins was the eldest son in the family. In addition to him, two children still grew up - Eric and Sneza.

If you re-read the biography of Martins Wilsons, it says almost nothing about childhood and adolescence. Obviously, the boyâs childhood and adolescence spent with his parents, brother and sister in Kolyma were not so interesting. After almost fifty years, the brothers decided to visit Magadan. They found the village where they were born. Pictured Martins Wilsons with brother Eric.
When the parents returned to Latvia after the exile, Martins was drafted into the army. Before leaving to serve, he was already married and had a son.
Work at BAM
After training, an excellent student in combat training was sent to the construction site of the century - BAM. He was well versed in the skills of driving any cars (he studied at the service), and this helped him a lot at the construction site. In his memoirs, he wrote:
âI was sent to Tynda to build the Trans-Siberian Railway, where rather inhuman living conditions existed. There I gained the experience of driving perfect SUVs on frozen rivers. I can drive light and heavy vehicles, with and without trailers. "I have rights of all categories, and perhaps I could work as a bus driver."
Army and construction tempered the guy. Living and working conditions in the winter months were simply inhuman. Frosts reached 60 ° C. Many at the construction site were sick and were dying. The food was scarce. Cold porridge warmed the heat of his body, in his bosom. He went through all this horror, having received a good life experience, later used by him in his acting profession.
Wilsons first movie
In 1976, having returned from BAM, Martins Wilsons decided to fulfill his motherâs unfulfilled dream of becoming an actor. He graduated from the acting studio at the Liepaja Drama Theater. At the same time, Wilsons received an offer to star in the role of Al Kitson in the film "Mirage" at the Riga Film Studio.
As they say about the actors who successfully starred in the feature film, after its rental: "In the morning he woke up famous." His Al Kitson just sunk into the souls of the audience. Martins received many letters from all over the Soviet Union. They were mostly written by women. Each tried to write her own life story.
Actor Martins Wilsons was predicted a bright future and a good career. But, as he himself admits, either because of ignorance, or because of his own stupidity, in his youth he did not take seriously enough the proposals received to act in film. Moreover, he did not fight for his place "under the sun", did not think about a career. Nevertheless, after the release of the first film, in 1984 Martins starred in several more films. These were: âTwo versions of one collision,â âTwo steps from Paradise,â and âWhen they brake.â These films gathered movie theaters.
By the way, there are a lot of fans of his talent. The older generation, it can be said, grew up on films with the participation of Martins. He was one of the most beloved actors of Soviet cinema. The ingenious Baltic actor conquered girls with his play.
Escape from the second wife
During the filming of the next film, Martins Wilsons began a relationship with costume designer Larisa Brown. He is leaving his second wife. After the breakup of the relationship between her husband and son Edgar, he leaves for Riga. All this happened during filming in Russia. He is tormented by the conscience that he left his son, and this leads to binges, and Larisa, having lived with him for four years, returns to the Liepaja Theater. And at this time, Martins Wilsons comes to the realization that for four years, when he was outside the theater, he underwent an internal reappraisal. He regretted leaving the theater.
Own theater
In the late nineties, the actor realized his dream and created his own personal theater in Liepaja. There he was a director and artistic director. He was pleased because he finally created a project in which he could feel free and unlimited.
Gradually Martins expanded his brainchild and created a cafe in the theater. But when he calculated the expenses and incomes, he realized that he needed to pay a considerable amount to save the theater, but he didnât have that kind of money. With disappointment, he admitted that there was no creative atmosphere in Liepaja. The city became pragmatic, the audience was rarely visiting the theater. Martins felt superfluous in the city.
Years spent in Riga
Having abandoned everything, including his family, he leaves for Riga in 2004. Undoubtedly, Wilsons is a top-level actor. He is invited to appear in the thriller "Lady with glasses, with a gun, in a car." This was followed by an invitation to star in the detective "Red Chapel" in the role of Kleist, and in the drama "Anastasia", where Wilsons plays the role of Konstantin Pogrebny.
In parallel with filming, Martins works in the theater. Famous Russian director Roman Viktyuk was delighted with the talented performance of Martins Wilsons as Lord Botvet in the Riga Russian Drama Theater. He believed that the level of Martins' game can be equated to Hollywood actors. The films and works that left a lasting impression are: âOfficers-2â, where he played Severson, the role of Guillaume Devai in the film âBeautiful Lifeâ and Ted Cooper in the film âHow I Became Russianâ.
For some time Martin was an actor in the Dylan Theater, but in 2011 he left him, and one of the possible reasons is the actorâs passion for alcoholic beverages. According to Wilsons himself, he left the theater because he could not understand the directors. His freedom-loving character dominated his actions. He made it clear that he was tired of doing what he did not want to do ...
A bit about personal
Wilsons made his personal contribution to the demographic situation in Latvia - he had five marriages in which eight children were born. The youngest daughter is a little over three years old. Martins Wilsonsâs personal life is peculiar, and marriages and divorces with women have some regularity - he left four of his wives. In an interview, he revealed the secret by telling who his ex-wives were. The first worked as a hairdresser, the second studied drama together, the third was a costume designer, and the fourth was a dentist.
When Martins left to serve, Kevin's eldest son was in a wheelchair. He is currently over forty, has a wife and three children. The second son is Edgar, from his second marriage. In the third marriage with Larisa, Martins had no children. The most difficult divorce occurred with his fourth wife. This happened when Martins left the family with two children - Margarita and Rudolf, and moved from Liepaja to Riga. Martins Wilsons has a good relationship with his ex-wives. He communicates with his elder four children and grandchildren of his eldest son.
Now Martins is in his fifth marriage and, as he believes, has found the real woman he was looking for. His wife is 20 years younger than him, but he appreciates Zane for not trying to remake him, and she has no jealousy. He is happy that four of their joint children appeared in their marriage.
To summarize
Martins played many diverse roles throughout his life. As he says, he always tried to give his best, but in the end everything depended on the script, and on the director, and on the time in which the characters of his films lived. In a conversation with reporters, Wilsons noted that he was generally satisfied with everything that he had, what he had achieved, and what had happened to him over the years of his life. And if he had to go a long way, perhaps he would have changed something, for example, would have become a writer. However, he is writing short stories now, but he thinks that he would do it more seriously. Starting to write, Martins says that he is trying to combine graphomania and acting, and does not interfere with one another.
