Despite the fact that the film "Eurotour" was released for quite some time - back in 2004 - many fans of uncomplicated youth comedies love it and revise it. One of the most favorite moments is the adventure of the main characters in Slovakia. Its capital, the city of Bratislava, “Eurotour” shows far from the best side. How the heroes ended up in Bratislava
Before the heroes visited the capital of Slovakia, the city of Bratislava, the film “Eurotour” made them travel a lot around Europe. It all started with an arrival in the UK. Here they met football fans and went with them to Paris. From here four heroes - three guys and a girl - each of whom pursued his own goals, went to Amsterdam. Here, everything went completely wrong as they planned - they had to flee from the crowd of nudists, and besides, they were robbed.
Having decided to get to Berlin (the purpose of the trip) by hitchhiking, the heroes again made problems for themselves. Because of the terrible German, they drove in a truck from Amsterdam right up to Slovakia. It was here, in the city of Bratislava, that Eurotour prepared for them, perhaps, the most vivid and memorable adventures.
What the heroes saw in Bratislava
The scriptwriters, along with the director, decided to show this ancient city exactly the way most Americans represent all of Eastern Europe.
Standard five-story houses, destroyed infrastructure, dogs eating human meat, people forced to bathe in the courtyard, using water just warmed up on a fire for this purpose, slop poured from the balcony, almost onto the passers-by head. Everything in gray tones is extremely gloomy and even ominous. The song “Get up the huge country” came to a place very solemn and gloomy, it perfectly conveyed the flavor of the Soviet atmosphere, but horrified the audience who were too impressionable. Having recounted all the remaining cash, the heroes found out that for four they had only one dollar and eighty-three cents left. What can they afford for that kind of money? As the following shots show - a lot. Once in the best hotel in the country, they pamper themselves with massage, spa treatments, lobsters, piglets, shrimps and many other goodies. As it turned out, the exchange rate in Slovakia is simply gorgeous!
Having given the servant ten cents for tea, the heroes watch a picture of him slapping his master, saying that with this money he will be able to open his own hotel. So, it was in the glorious city of Bratislava that the Eurotour showed itself in all its glory!
Having stayed in Slovakia, the heroes finally go to Berlin - to the purpose of travel.
Where they shot a trailer of the film with Bratislava
Many fans of the film are interested to know where they shot Bratislava in the Eurotour. It turns out, like the rest of the film (including the USA, Holland, Germany, the Vatican and other countries) in the Czech Republic. Yes, in this amazing country there were ideal places to shoot suitable landscapes for any scene.
Well, specifically, Bratislava was filmed in the town of Milovitsa. For several decades, the headquarters of the Soviet Central Group of Forces was located here. It functioned from 1968 to 1991. Alas, after the collapse of the USSR, the military returned home, and their housing was simply abandoned.
Gradually, it became a haven for homeless people, drug addicts and other marginalized sections of society. Therefore, over the next 13 years (namely, so much has passed since the military evacuated to the start of the film), this microdistrict acquired just the right form - abandoned, devastated, even with a touch of post-apocalypse.
Of course, before the start of filming, I had to slightly refine the terrain. Entire streets of garbage bags appeared on the streets, graffiti adorned the walls.
Now we figured out where we shot Bratislava from the Eurotour. And we can say with confidence - the real capital of Slovakia has absolutely nothing to do with the one that was shown to fans of comedies.

However, this is not the end of kinolapy. As mentioned above, for the four heroes of cash there was only 1.83 dollars.
Having exchanged money for local (apparently) currency, they threw a real celebration of life. However, the director did not even think that Eastern European Slovakia had already switched to the euro by 2004 (when the film was shot). And the dollar / euro rate was not the best then. For one dollar, you could get only 0.82 euros. Well, ordinary dollars and cents (remember the scene where a hotel employee gets a huge tip) can not be spent anywhere. So it would hardly be so rosy for four young travelers. However, this is a comedy! Therefore, to find fault with such subtleties is not worth it.
But the landscapes of Bratislava themselves seriously offended the Slovaks. Still, their capital is a beautiful European city with a long history. There are narrow streets paved with stone, ancient buildings, unique architecture. The administration carefully monitors all new buildings - they must fit into the general style and not violate it. Therefore, the horrors that the heroes observed in the film were not and could not be here. And most citizens recall the times when their country (then still part of Czechoslovakia) entered the Soviet bloc, with warmth and sad nostalgia.

However, this is no reason to deny yourself the pleasure of once again reviewing your favorite comedy. Although humor is not too sophisticated here, but many viewers love just such a style, which is why they get a lot of positive emotions.
