In the capital of Belarus, Minsk, the Belarusian State Musical Theater has been fruitfully working for many years. A magnificent troupe of vocalists and ballet dancers every day creates a theatrical miracle on stage, giving the audience the joy of familiarizing themselves with art. “Is there an extra ticket?” - In the days of premieres, this can often be heard on the steps of the theater, because many productions of the famous theater make up the golden fund of the culture of Belarus.
History of creation
The life of the theater team was not easy, which is why its history has two fateful premieres.
The first of them took place in January 1971 and marked the appearance in Minsk of a new collective of the Belarusian Musical Theater. The performance “Song of the Lark”, the music for which was written by composer Yu. Semenyako, was chosen as the premiere.
But the collective did not have its own premises, the theater had to work on venues that belonged to houses of culture and other theaters.
Only 10 years later, the Belarusian Musical Theater was able to give a performance on its own stage in a building specially created for it. This time, the brilliant operetta The Bat (I. Strauss) was chosen as the festive premiere performance.
House for the theater
Especially for the Belarusian Musical Theater on Myasnikov Street, a building was erected in 1981 on the site of the former House of Culture belonging to the cloth factory.
Now, house number 44 is known to all citizens.
Leading masters worked on the project: architects V. Tarnovsky, I. Karpov and A. Shorop, sculptor L. Zilber, engineer V. Katsnelson, and O. Tkachuk led the project.
The theater building was erected in the style of post-war modernism and has a pronounced character. The refined layout of the facade, decorated with many sculptural groups, gracefully harmonizes with surfaces of light limestone. The building does not look “shovels” even today, attracting attention with expression and elegance.
In the photo of the Belarusian State Academic Musical Theater, you can see that the facade of the building is decorated with five figures of muses that embody musical and theatrical art. The image of the patronesses of the beautiful is complemented by musical instruments, masks, there is even a symbol of inspiration - Pegasus. Copper sculptures attract attention with a rich red-brown color, clearly visible on a light background of the walls, besides the architects each allocated consoles.
The theater is surrounded by a green square; a wide staircase decorated with a sculptural group and lanterns leads to the entrance.
The atmosphere of the holiday is also created by the internal theater interiors, elegantly decorated with gilding and luxurious scarlet velvet.
Life today
Having found a home, the Belarusian Academic Musical Theater was able to work, completely devoting itself to creativity.
Since 1971, viewers have seen more than a hundred performances, the theater administration has calculated that over 250 thousand spectators come to performances every year.
It was on these stages that the plays of Belarusian masters such as Y. Semenyako, V. Kondrusevich, A. Mdivani, V. Voitik, G. Surus, E. Glebov and others were performed for the first time.
The theater successfully combines experiment and traditional approach, innovation and a bold breakthrough. Not in vain in 2001 the team received the title of “Honored”. Since 2009, the name of the Belarusian Musical Theater has been supplemented with one, but very significant word - “academic”.
