Now quite a lot of authors write in the style of science fiction, but the novels written by Fedor Berezin can be especially noted. They surprisingly accurately convey all the technical details, and this is what attracts some of his fans. His books are fiction, but if these events really happened, then most likely they would have developed that way.
Writer Biography
Fedor Berezin was born on February 7, 1960 in the city of Donetsk (Ukraine). The future science fiction writer lived in this place until 1977, when, after graduating from school, he entered the Engels Higher Anti-Aircraft Missile Command School of the USSR Air Defense (EVZRKU). Then he moved to the Saratov region, to the city of Engels, where he lived until 1981. It was this year that he graduated from college.
Further, fate threw him to Kazakhstan, and then to the Far East. It was in these places that he served until 1991, until he retired to the reserve with the rank of captain. After that, he moved to his hometown - Donetsk, where he lives today. Berezin's family life did not work out. He was married, he has two children, but is now divorced from his wife. The ex-wife lives with her children in Italy.
After the writer resigned, he went through many types of activities - went down to the mine, working as a sinker of vertical trunks, was also an entrepreneur. However, not one type of activity satisfied him.
Political activity
Fedor Berezin did not remain indifferent to the events in his native Donetsk. When a change of power took place in the city and region, and the Donetsk People's Republic was proclaimed, the writer was not aloof from the events. He went to the militia as an ordinary soldier. But after a while he was appointed Minister of Defense of the DPR. This happened on the fourth of June 2014. He stayed in this position until November of the same year, and then became an assistant commandant of Donetsk.
In light of these facts, it is noteworthy that long before the conflicts in Ukraine, Berezin wrote a novel about a military conflict in the country. This cannot be said to be an accurate prediction, since the events in the book are somewhat different from the real ones, but the essence remains the same. The author himself speaks of the contradictions that accumulate every year, and as a result of inept governance of the country lead to disaster.
Creativity Berezina
Let's talk in more detail about his work. He writes in the style of "Russian fantastic action movie" with a bias on a detailed description of the technique used by the characters. Some critics classify his works as a genre of turborealism, and the writer himself claims to be writing in the style of a fantastic-philosophical technotiller, and many consider him the founder of this style of writing for Russian-speaking authors. The author was fond of science fiction since his youth, he dreamed of writing his novel. He only had such an opportunity at the age of thirty-eight, when, having tried many activities, he decided to really do what the soul lay for.
During his writing work, he wrote more than fifteen full-fledged novels. Some are independent works, some enter into cycles (the author has only four cycles). In addition, Fedor Dmitrievich wrote several novels and short stories, quite often published his articles in magazines and published on the Web. Also, Fedor Berezin, whose books are so popular, is a laureate of many prizes during his writing career, a member of the Writers' Union in Russia.
Literary Prizes
Fyodor Berezin writes books that are really interesting and fascinating, because it is not in vain that he is a laureate of a number of awards that he received at the International Bridge Festival of Fiction, held in Kharkov:
- In 2001, he won first place and received the Golden Caduceus in the nomination âBest Debutâ for his first novel âAshesâ.

- In 2005, he won third place in the same nomination and âBronze Caduceusâ for the next two novels. The first was âThe War of 2030. The Red Dawn.â The second was a logical continuation. His gazvanie - âWar 2030. Fire in the metropolisâ.
- In 2006, he had another third place. He received it in the same nomination for the novel âWar of 2030. Attack of the Rocky Mountainsâ.
- In 2007, the same award was for the novel âThe Creator of the Black Shipâ.
âAshesâ - Berezin's first novel
The first novel written by Berezin Fedor Dmitrievich was âAshesâ. According to the author, he waited a whole year until it was printed. They released it in ten copies, and only after a while they noticed it.
So what is this novel about? The first thing that strikes the reader is the abundance of hostilities, a large number of techniques described so accurately that those who have a highly developed imagination may think that he was instantly transferred to the scene. Some critics believe that the human images in the novel are not described as deeply as is done with technology. Of course, this is not for everybody.
The plot of the book is in the tragic turn of the fate of one pilot, Hadas Kume, who, due to a breakdown in his ship, was forced to land on an uninhabited planet. However, as it turned out, it is not at all uninhabited. The remnants of civilization that wage a meaningless war, while living deep underground, have been preserved there. The pilot was captured and survived torture, acquaintance with the tyrant-ruler, after which he was able to stop the senseless war.
The author in the novel describes both large-scale battles and small ones, all with the same zeal and scrupulousness. The striking description of an interplanetary nuclear attack, which in the book occupies more than a hundred pages. In addition, here you can find stories about human destinies that were broken by the war.
In general, the novel is quite complex in plot and has its own philosophical idea. It is rather difficult to read the book, as there are no easy and relaxing moments in the text, the reader is kept in suspense throughout the whole time. Thanks to all these advantages, Berezin received his first prize.
Series of novels âRed Starsâ
In the same year as the previous work, Fedor Berezin began âRed Starsâ - a series of cataclysm novels. The first work, which was published in 2001, was the book âCounter Cataclysm,â and the second, that is, a sequel, was published under the title âParallel Cataclysmâ in 2002. It was written in the genre of alternative history, the essence of which is as follows. When aircraft carriers fall into our reality, on the wings of which are signs of a country that has not existed for a long time, namely the USSR, the Americans are worried. Not only was the attack on their base, which turned out to be completely destroyed, there was also a threat from the outside.
The governments of Russia and America found an opportunity to get into another world and sent a scout there. Having studied the situation, he saw that there was no hostile world at all. It's just that the story there is somewhat different from what it is in our reality, so completely different events take place. And again, grandiose wars with high-tech potential are shown. True, the weapon that is described in the book is almost modern and quite real.
After a long time, in 2013, Berezin continued the series and wrote another book - Nuclear Dawn. For her, in 2014 he received the award - âSilver ROSCONâ. And it is still believed that this series is the most popular with the author. It is through her that they recognize his work.
Black Ship Series
The science fiction writer Fyodor Berezin continued writing his novels with a rather interesting cycle called The Black Ship. It included the following works:
- âThe huge black ship.â
- âThe crew of the black ship.â
- âThe creator of the black ship."
- âIn the sight of a black ship.â
The cycle of these books, according to the author, was conceived along with the first novel. Obviously, this is why the plot in terms of large-scale military operations and original equipment is similar to it. The action takes place on a planet where there are two superpowers that are preparing for a big war. Of course, after a while it begins. And the author shows how this happens, describing the smallest details with amazing style and details. In general, the plot is quite interesting and unusual.
Series of novels âWars of the Futureâ
Another interesting cycle of novels by Fedor Berezin is the âWar of 2030â. The series itself is called âWars of the Future,â but each book begins with this. So, the list of novels that went into the cycle:
- "Red Dawn".
- "Fire of the mother country."
- âAttack of the Rocky Mountainsâ.
The action in the book takes place in the near future. America unleashes a war on the African continent, the purpose of the inhabitants of which is to seize all the remaining oil reserves (and they are coming to an end). However, as it turned out, not everything is so simple. After a while, a third opponent is identified who does not like what is happening. It turns out to be an organization whose goal is to return Russia to its former greatness.
In principle, we can say that this novel is one of the many patriotic opuses that Russian writers began to create. This direction unites one thing - the whole world is against Russia, but it always gets out of the situation, defeats opponents and creates better living conditions for its citizens. The difference between this novel is that it describes (as is already traditional for the author) not people, but more and more technology.
Novels in the series âInhabited Islandâ and âZone of Deathâ
What kind of literature do you like to read? Probably, many fans of the fantasy genre read the story of the Strugatsky brothers âInhabited Islandâ. It was continued by many authors, films were started on this topic. Berezin also did not stand aside from this topic and in 2011 wrote the novel âNuclear Fortressâ, and in 2012 - âGolovanâ. Like all previous works of Berezin, these two are replete with descriptions of future technology, as well as global disasters and events.
Also recently, the death zone series has been popular, where many authors have already distinguished themselves. The theme of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, namely the explosion on it, all worries the writers' minds and makes us guess what could happen if radiation had an effect on objects, changing their properties. There are many completely diverse books on this subject, but here two storylines can be noted: the Chernobyl nuclear power plant with technology mutants (these are tanks, trucks, etc.) and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant with animal mutants. Each line found its fans. Of course, Fedor Berezin, in his desire to describe fantastic details, chose the first line. The work was written in 2011 and is called âInterrogation with biasâ.
Series of books âWar 2010â
The writer did not ignore the events that unfolded in his native country - Ukraine. A rather difficult political situation, which became more and more complicated every year, forced to take up a pen, from which two novels came out:
- âWar 2010. The Ukrainian Frontâ (2009).
- âWar 2011. Against NATOâ (2010).
It should be noted that many, based on today's political events, call the book, which was written by Fedor Berezin, âThe Ukrainian Front,â prophetic. She talks about the military events in Ukraine, but, as the author himself says, the reality turned out to be much worse than fiction. Since the writer lives in the area where the hostilities take place directly, he saw the war firsthand, he can also compare. Of course, events take place in the book in a slightly different way. For example, Turkey is the aggressor, and it is supported by NATO, as well as the Kiev authorities.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it should be said that Fedor Berezin is a rather interesting author, whose books, although quite specific, are worth reading. In them you can find many strong-minded people who sincerely root for their country, and, of course, extremely unique and detailed technology. For lovers of this genre, the works are simply amazing.
