What if you want a side dish of potatoes, but mashed potatoes or simply boiled tubers seem terribly boring? It is worth trying an original dish, quite simple to prepare, namely potato balls. The recipe may be different, but the result always turns out to be satisfying, unusual and tasty.

Classic potato balls
The recipe requires the use of the following products: five hundred grams of potatoes, salt, one hundred and fifty milliliters of milk, fifty grams of butter, flour or breadcrumbs for breading, an egg, two hundred milliliters of vegetable oil for frying. The basis of the dish is ordinary mashed potatoes. Peel, rinse and boil the potatoes. Mash with warm milk, thoroughly kneading so that no lumps come out. Add butter and sculpt small balls. If the mash is soft and difficult to shape, try wetting your hands in cold water. Roll the finished balls in flour, dip in the egg and again in the flour or breadcrumbs. The first option is more tender, and the second - crispy. Pour the vegetable oil into the pan. The level should be such that potato balls can float in it. The recipe, of course, is not dietary, but it turns out very tasty. Fry until golden brown. If it bursts, and the filling begins to creep out, get the balls out of the oil without waiting for readiness. Alternatively, you can make potato balls with cheese. The recipe will remain virtually unchanged. You can also add greens or pan balls in unsweetened chopped cereal.
Meat potato balls
The recipe for this dish involves the use of the following products: a kilogram of potatoes, two glasses of flour, an egg, one hundred and fifty grams of salted pork, one onion, a tablespoon of butter, a pinch of allspice, salt and spices to taste. Boil the tubers in their skins, peel and crush in mashed potatoes. To avoid tight lumps, you can use a mixer. After cooling completely, add the egg, salt, flour and pepper, knead the potato dough.

Peel and finely chop the onion, sauté in a pan for several minutes. Cut the meat into small cubes and add to the onion, fry for some more time. Remove from heat, season with pepper and let cool. You can sculpt potato balls. The recipe is this - take a spoonful of dough, roll a lump with a small depression, put the meat filling and roll it up so that you get a uniform ball. Boil in salted boiling water until all float to the surface. This will take no more than ten minutes. It can be served with fresh herbs, sour cream or any sauce to taste. This dish is hearty and mouth-watering, so it does not require an additional side dish.
