How many significant people in the world cinema advocated and supported the “original cinema”, coming down with emotional accusations against some investors who, for the sake of profit alone, make remakes of popular old movies! All these attempts to “go out onto the barricades and save the cinema from the abyss” did not yield absolutely any results, the number of studios stamping the “secondary product” increased several times. The reason for this phenomenon is very commonplace - the benefit. After all, shooting a film in the original scenario is very troublesome, and risky. So the 2005 film "House of Wax" is the third remake of the films "The Secret of the Wax Museum" (1933), and "The Wax Museum" (1953) directed by Andre de Taut. And also the film by E. Horror or slasher?
If you try, you can remember a great many films, and not only
horror movies, which are about wax figures. Perhaps this popularity of the topic is due to the sublimation of the director's fears of them. And if you take into account that the audience was indestructible and always in demand, there will be interest in all sorts of psychopaths and maniacs, traditionally right and left “crumbling” a group of unhappy teenagers, it becomes clear that the old story is revived in the new horror film “House of Wax Figures”. Ultimately, the creators somewhat exaggerated the idea, were not limited to the main place of development of events only at home, but it was this that made it possible to diversify the ongoing action. A long introduction, which, in fact, does not have special significance, is skillfully diluted with intriguing moments. It is in the prologue that acquaintance with the main characters takes place, an understanding of their characters and motivation for actions. What genre should the film “House of Wax" belong to? Horror, of course, is still a thriller - there is no doubt about it. Nevertheless, and this must be admitted, it looks more like an implacable slasher. At the same time, the picture is almost not similar in atmosphere to its previous reincarnations. Maybe because it looks more modern and stylish. Such thoughts come to mind, you just have to look at the trailer. The "House of Wax" is intriguing, keeps it in suspense, it is simply impossible to watch the empathy of the main characters without empathy.
Veiled spoiler. Briefly about the plot
A company of teenagers rides for the long-awaited match, their car breaks down, as usual, in the area where the psychopathic killers run the show. But the guys didn’t know about it, and the cozy provincial town of Ambrose (in which there is not a soul on the street!) Even liked them. Young people were especially interested in the House of Wax, which kept a terrible secret, and very soon the company would have to face it face to face. Rather, with him - the same maniac (by the way, incredibly similar to Ozzy Osbourne), who will kill them brutally in order to replenish the exposition or just for his own satisfaction. Here the most interesting part begins: you simply physically sense how danger is hidden behind each corner-turn and awaits you.
Verdict
The House of Wax can definitely be called the most frightening, bloody and sinister remake of the old horror movie The Secret of the Wax Museum. The film turned out to be quite unusual, fans of slasher horror films will definitely like it.
