The preparation "Prozac", the analogues of which are represented by such medicines as "Zoloft", "Paxil", "Luvox", "Celax", is produced in the form of capsules with the active substance fluoxetine (20 mg). The drug belongs to the clinical and pharmacological group of antidepressants.

The pharmacological effect is based on the ability of the drug to inhibit the reuptake of serotonin.

After taking fluoxetine, it is well absorbed by the body. The active substance metabolizes intensively in the liver with the formation of norfluoxetine and other components. It is excreted by the kidneys.

The medication is prescribed for various types of depression, bulimia of nervous etiology, obsessive-compulsive disorders, premenstrual syndrome.

The doctor prescribes a daily dose of 20 mg for patients with depression, 60 mg for bulimia nervosa, and 20 mg to 60 mg for obsessive-compulsive disorders, depending on the patient’s condition.

At the discretion of the doctor, it is allowed to increase or decrease the intake of fluoxetine, given that the maximum daily dose should not exceed 80 mg.

Disorders in the genitourinary system are characterized by frequent urination, involuntary sustained erection, decreased libido, pathology of the ejaculation process, lack of orgasm, impotence.

Disruptions in the endocrine system are manifested by problems with the secretion of ADH.

Disturbances in the nervous system are accompanied by convulsions, ataxia, buccal-gloss syndrome, myoclonus, tremor, anorexia, anxiety and heart palpitations. Some patients showed signs of anxiety, nervousness, agitation, dizziness, drowsiness, asthenia.

Concentration of attention, confusion of thinking, a manic reaction, insomnia may appear. During clinical trials of the drug, cases of visual impairment with mydriasis or blurred images were indicated. There is evidence of negative consequences with dry mouth, increased sweating, vasodilation, chills, serotonin syndrome.

Allergic reactions are mentioned, which are accompanied by itching, rash, urticaria, anaphylactic shock, vasculitis, signs resembling serum sickness.

Photosensitivity or alopecia may increase.

The drug is found in breast milk, therefore, the appointment of nursing mothers requires special care and constant monitoring.

For patients with impaired liver function, it is recommended to review the dose in the direction of decreasing the amount of active substance and reducing the frequency of taking the medicine.
