Gum flux - a dangerous dental disease

Flux is one of the most serious dental diseases, characterized by the formation of a purulent cone. Usually it appears on the gum near the tooth root.

What triggers the appearance of flux? The main reason is a neglect of your teeth, unwillingness to visit the dentist and self-medication. All this gradually leads to the formation of caries and subsequently to an exacerbated form of the disease - flux. The medical term for this disease is periostitis.

The infection introduced into the cavity enters the pulp and thereby causes inflammation.

The peak of the disease is accompanied by severe pain, but when the pulp dies, the pain dulls, and this is the greatest danger, since the person’s vigilance is euthanized, there is hope that the pain will pass by itself. However, now the development of a latent form of the disease begins. Infection with its "tentacles" as if encircles the root of the tooth, and pus gradually accumulates around it. Ultimately, bone jaw inflammation occurs.

So, in order to timely detect flux on the gums, it is necessary to identify its symptoms at an early stage. At the very beginning, attention should be paid to the pain that occurs when pressing on the tooth due to food intake. With the most thorough examination of the oral cavity, you can notice swelling of the mucous membrane around the tooth and the appearance of a lump, which is filled with pus.

If the flux on the gum appeared in the upper region of the jaw, then the lips and cheeks swell, and the eyelids swell. If the process affects the lower part, then there is a swelling of the chin, an increase in lymph nodes under the lower jaw. The temperature rises to thirty-eight degrees, there is a general malaise. By the way, in adults the symptoms of the disease are most pronounced than in children or the elderly.

The acute form of the flux is accompanied by severe swelling of the gums, the upper lip and nasolabial fold also swell . Gradually, pus spreads along the muscles, and soft tissues of the neck and face are damaged. This stage of the disease is already in a state of neglect, and even death can occur.

Flux on the gum, which has become chronic, proceeds in slow motion. There is a thickening of the jawbone under a diseased tooth. Despite some inhibition, inflammation still develops.

Basically, flux occurs primarily as a result of caries, as well as due to any mechanical damage to the oral mucosa. Entering microbes using a syringe during tooth anesthesia can also provoke it.

Based on the foregoing, it becomes clear that the prerequisite for the occurrence of flux is an introduced infection. Procrastination with treatment gives bacteria favorable soil for spread in the oral cavity. They gradually destroy the pulp, corroding it, and get close to the periosteum. In case of untimely withdrawal of a temporary filling with arsenic, the destruction of the pulp also occurs, and favorable conditions are created for the occurrence of flux.

If a flux on the gum has already appeared , its treatment consists, first of all, in removing the purulent focus and eliminating inflammation. To do this, anesthesia is performed, the gum is cut and pus is removed. And so that its outflow occurs completely, a drainage is applied in the form of a rubber bandage, which prevents gum coalescence. At the same time, you need to take antibiotics that relieve inflammation and pain.

After the pus has come out completely, the drainage is removed, and bone tissue is restored. Gum needs to be sutured, and a tooth needs to be removed, but only if it is severely affected by caries and there is no point in treating it.

Flux often develops after tooth extraction. In this, violations of certain technologies or instructions may play a role. Then postoperative complications are very possible, therefore it is advisable to turn only to trusted specialists.
